Finally got to tweak the Q5 drain last night.  Initial impression... WOW.  This pedal is as good as I heard.  Found my stock "middle" setting on the trim know was WAY low.  Reading 2.2 volts.  The trim is VERY touchy.  SLIGHT nudges make big (relatively) bumps.  Set it at 3.69V last night.  This pedal RIPS and has the quality, cascaded gain stage sound I was hoping it would.  It and my Choral Flanger in flanger mode had me WAY into Van Howieland last night.

No wonder all the hype around this pedal.  It really adds a different flavor to my amps.  Cleaning up the Rebel and turning it on, sounds like a real high gain amp with the more aggressive style tone.  The Rebel has a lot of gain but not a ton.  It is smoother, which is a great tone.  This is more aggressive/crunchy.

Now I'm itching to try a mod or two to the tone circuit, and the back end where changing a few caps supposedly opens it up even more.  But even stock, this thing rips!
I must not be in the club, since I have no idea what that acronym means.

Brown Sound In A Box II

Cascaded FET gain stages, designed like a high gain tube amp.

The comment above about adjusting the Q5 drain, is setting bias, just like a tube.  ;)   Jamie is going to love this thing!  I probably just better build another one now because he won't leave Bertapalooza without one.   ;)

Here's an amusing link because it's a little Fender Champ 600 amp, with the little known "58-on-a-box" micing technique.  ;D I've heard killer samples of this pedal at TGP, but the first ones I found on YouTube were all lame.  This one at least gives you and idea what it does to a little tiny tube amp.

Hard to tell from that audio, but sounds pretty cool.  I'd like to hear a better clip, or in person...
Get Howie to build 2 more (1 for Jamie and 1 to send to you). If you dont like it, send it to me and I'll square you for the shipping and Howie for the parts/build and everyone's happy. You decide you want to keep it? No problem, I'll just wait until my amp builds are finished and build one for myself ;).

This beast will site nicely between my BYOC TS and RAT clones 8-).

I use the BSIAB2 or the Highway89 in the sorta rock n roll bar band I play in.  Lately it's been the BSIAB2 more often.  I usually use it at or near the end of the chain, same with the Dr. Boogie though I haven't used it out as much.

Here are some more clips of the BSIAB2:

Lotsa clips of other DIY stuff there too.  Mine sounds more like the second round of clips on that page.  I dig this pedal into my Pignose on the couch as well!
