Good demo, Spud!  How about listing some settings used on the pedals.  Also, what clipping are you using in your screamer?  Sounds more on the crunchy side.

The reason the screamer sounds crunchy is I'm using the TL072 chip at the moment. I blew both my JRC and RC4558's by plugging into a PSU that was switched to positive centre and trust me, BYOC screamers do NOT like that ::). (The RC4558P actually split and the "pop" was loud enough for Jo to hear in the next room 8-))

The TL used with Germanium diodes is the best sound combo with the TL chip for me, I don't like the LED clipping options with the TL. When I get a new JRC4558 chip, I'll go back to the LED clipping because I found that the smoothest sounding.

As for settings on the other pedals, I'll do a Mr Schenker for now and say "Can't give away all my fucking secrets dude" :-X ;D

She thought you had farted too loud, I guess ???   ;D ;D
Andy, I don't know what all clipping you've tried, but I'd really check out 2 germanium diodes and 3 in asymmetric setup, but try a Burr Brown OPA 2134 and a TLC 2272.  Those are my favorite two chips so far in most screamer type pedals.  That and a germanium clipping section should be about the smoothest thing you'll find.

I have some "on-on-on" toggle switches.  I'm going to try all kinds of things and keep my 3 favorites in the pedal and all available on the switch.  Or... IF there really is enough different clipping options that really seem usable and different enough to warrant it, I might do a "super screamer" with a rotary knob and 6-10 different clipping options.  I initially planned to do this, but I really think I'll find two or three clipping options that really stand out and stick with those.
Fucking finally got clips.

Sounds interesting.  I have an idea.  Why not take a specific pedal and just give it a thorough workout and show flexability?

for me, I'm the kinda bloke that wants to buy something that does more than one thing and do all of it well.  I'm not much on getting one thing out of a pedal....so how flexable are your pedals?  Do they cover some ground or are they one trick ponies?

You cuss in your demo.....I like that.  The funniest thing though was when you signed off at the end and sounded like a fucking red neck! ;D
That's cool!  I have to listen to it more closely, but you have some nice sounding pedals there.

I like "Hi guys--and you, Craig".  Hilarious!
Spud, I really like your pedalboard and pedals.  There is something about building them yourself that gives you much satisfaction (as long as they turn out like you hoped for).

Thanks for posting the clip.  There are some really nice tones in there.

I missed that...  I guess that's what you get when you beat one of their Royal Knights at darts, eh?
or have a gay affair with Mark.   ;)

So did you have this affair before or after the one with Randy?

You looking to purchase Matt? The question has to be, can you use a soldering iron? If you can and you have (and know how to use) a multi-meter, I'll demo whatever you want and if you decide you want it, you can build your own. Tell me what your interestested in and I'll do some clips of that/those pedals giving you the flexability within that build. Just let me know what you want to hear......

I'll take the redneck remark as a compliment coming from you :P ;D
Spud,

REALLY dug the Rat clone.

What settings are using on the Rking?  Just curious.

Are you also running the delay through the loop also?

I can use a multimeter and a soldering iron....own and use both.  I have never dabbled in MAKING pedals because....well I'm a chicken shit! HAHAHAHAHA

At this point I would be more into the modulation pedals....any delay, chorus, phaser, flanger stuff.  As far as OD type pedals....if you ever do a Fuzz I'd be into that.  I am curious about your Rat type pedal......though I doubt I'd be doing an OD type pedal ever as I am really happy with what I have....but you never know.

Channel 1 CLEEAAANNN :)!!!! Seriously Chris, Channel 1 set to 4x6L6 with tube rec, clean setting and thats it. Everything else comes from the pedal board. I use the loop only for the chorus and Vibrato right now. Everything else is into the front end in the order of the Demo.
I'd better finish my Phaser then Matt. I think you'll like that one ;).

I'll do a demo on the Rat alone 'cause that's a very versatile thing. The new version has twice the amount of clipping options straight out the box. This was also my first build so it's bog-standard.

Once the Screamer is back working how I want it, I'll demo that alone too.

Compressor demo anyone?? :)
Slurp some more beer, and record some more shit.
Sounds great  8-)

Compressor demo anyone?? :)

*raises hand*
That would be right up my alley as I haven't determined the best way to use mine yet.

The only thing I wondered was the voicing (Clean, Fat, Tweed).

I could tell the delay was up front.  I would, seriously, run that pedal through the loop.

Thanks Chris, I'll try that later. Nice to have the option on this :). Yes, clean mode on channel 1 is all I use with this set-up. Time to out the boogie and get me a Cornford head/cab I think. Gonna A/B that rig withe the Roadking this weekend and make a decision then.

Soon as I get the time Keebo, I'll do this. For my money, A comp should go at the start of the chain and always set it up with a clean/dry signal (clean channel and no reverb or other effects in the chain).

Hope this helps.
That would be cool, Spud.

Which transistor set and IC are you using in your build?  I settled on the BA6110 and 2N5088s but I am still getting too much distortion.  So much so that it is out of the loop until I find a way to tame it.  I found a few posts on the BYOC forum concerning this problem that I will look into when time permits.  I hope I can get it working properly because this is the pedal that first got me interested in stompboxes.

I actually tend to prefer the Tweed setting with a lowered gain.  Gets a more classic sound.

I actually ended up doing a tube setup similar to Johnny's.  I dropped a set of JJ 6V6 in the power section, JJ GZ34's in the recto.  But I also dropped 1 Tung-sol Reissue Hi-Gain Gold plated 12ax7 in V1, 2 Tung-Sol Reissue Hi-Gain regular 12AX7's in V2 & V3, and regular Tung-Sol Reissues in the rest (except a balanced on in V6 for the Phase Inverter).  Tung-Sol 12AX7's in a Recto=

The sound of this amp is now TITS OUT!!!!  The cleans, when set to low-gain Tweed sound LUSCIOUS!!!  Even better with a clean booster.  Channel 2, on Hi-Gain British setting has a nice crunch.  I love to kick in the PedwalWorx Tejas (boutique TS808) on with the volume cranked and the Drive zeroed.  Very nice!!!  It got rid of most of the woofiness of Channel 3 & 4 without losing the balls.  Channel 3 on Vintage with gain around noon with the Tejas on is a righteous rock sound.

sorry if i appear to be a twonker, but i see no picture of the pedalboard...

Nice job on the pedals and the clip.  I had missed this as it was an earlier thread before I made my way back here.

Plus, I had been avoiding these type threads, as the last thing I need is another fucking hobby.

Thanks, fuckers.

Could you say "Booooooogie" for me one more time.  I dig that accent!
