Hey guys, need a little info here. Anybody have any idea what the thickest gauge of strings that will fit into a Gibson SG Standard nut without filing is? I'm having to do some recording and I have to do it in dropped C tunning. (DAFCGC).
I don't know this as fact, but I've been told that they are cut for 10s so anything bigger may need a bit of filing.
You can prolly squeeze a .052 in there as the .010 set has a .046 low E. Here's a list of EB's... http://www.ernieball.com/products/category-916-Nickel-Wound

You need a baritone Juan! That neck wasn't meant for anything close to drop C. Even worse, Gibson's have the shortest scale...

You are correct sir! The shorter scale (24 3/4") is gonna make a difference. Although, Godsmack
and Zakk use Gibson Les Paul Customs, so.... :-/

Of course Zakk uses ridiculous strings for drop tuning.
I've got 11's on my SG Supreme and didn't need to do anything.
Can't speak about the SG, but the thinnest string set I have put on ANY of my guitars in at least the past 5 years is a 10-52 set for standard tuning, but in the past 3 years it is 11's for standard and 12's for Eb and Drop C tunings. This applies to all of the Schecters I have been using, the Ibanez, the Agiles, the Carvins, etc... Never altered any of the nuts
