Somewhere back in the mists of time I remember seeing a diy curcuit for a tone generator on one of the Diy pedal sites and I'm damned if I can find it again.
Any of the Diy'ers here know where I can find one?
The idea is to build a mini version into one of my spare BYOC cases and mount a small speaker in the same box. Use the jack sockets for tone out/signal back in to test defunct pedals.
If you find an extra, send one to Howie so he can use it to record SOMETHING! ;) ;D
Andy, do you mean like a pink or white noise generator? (White for me, pink for Craig :P)
More like black noise for you! ;D
(And, no, I'm not referring to Rap! ;) )
;D ;D ;D
The idea Howie, is to have a curcuit that will generate a tone of whatever type. This will then go from an output jack to the pedal to be tested via a normal patch lead. You then use a test probe with a male jack on the other end of the lead to trace out the curcuit. The input jack socket (which you plug the test probe into) would be connected to a small speaker mounted in the same enclosure so that you can hear at what point the curcuit you're testing stops working.
Sorry if I'm breaking this down too much Howie but I want to give EVERYONE the idea behind this so that if we can build it, ANYONE can build it to test pedals, amps or anything passive else like leads, pedalboards etc......You get the idea.?.?.?
I've got a guy here in the UK who can design and etch a PCB along the BYOC lines so that I can get them made in batch from as low as 25 at a time. As with BYOC I can then sell the PCB's with instructions to build your own self contained test rig.
That's the idea.
Spud.
I've never seen that, but at least I know what you are talking about now. Dar and I have discussed his setup for this before. He has some type of rig for this.
My first BYOC came with a free audio tester kit that suggests you plug it into your guitar and strum as you are testing the circuit. I knew I wasn't going to be able to do that very effectively so I bought a cheap $10 amp kit (there was a $10 minimum limit where I bought a zener diode) and run my iPod through it while troubleshooting.
Just another way to skin a pig.
