Hey, those of you who have used the xotic AC and RC (and anything else by xotic)... I was working for a while on an AC/RC boost that could switch from one to the other because they are very similar. Unfortunately, not similar enough... although technically feasible, it would take switching at least two switches, which is just not cool. So here's my question... are the AC and RC boost they different enough to warrant being put in one box together? And if so, which one would you put in first, feeding into the other? Or would I be better off putting something like the EP boost in front of the AC or RC?
I've tryed both. For what's my experience with them:
AC - Good semi-od pedal with lot of taste. What I got was an extremely good mild overdriven sound. Great EQ. Hard to explain in a language that's not mine.. :)
RC - Sounded anemic. IMHO, nothing good nothing bad. I could live without it.
BB- Wow !! Great pedal! Beautiful OD with "intelligent" EQ section.
Would be nice (for my tastes) a dual pedal: AC and/or BB !!
My 0,02.. :)
I only have experience with the BB and RC. I liked BB -> RC better than RC -> BB, so I'd probably like AC -> RC. try BB -> RC... that's pretty cool, smooths/fills out the BB a bit.
I'd probably run an EP last but no experience there... I just usually like color/boosts last/later so the "cool" from them doesn't get lost.
Ok, so maybe BB > AC > EP? I've made the BB and I like it, but it's not very gainy. Judging from the AC clips I've heard, that's somewhat on the higher-gain side. RC has much higher forward voltage on the clippers, so it's not going to be have as much gain/distortion--is that what you mean by anemic?
I remember thinking that the AC would be something along the lines of a fulldrive (gain-wise), so I didn't get one... could have been wrong there. but now that you mention it, BB -> FD2 sounds like a good idea to me. might have to try that!
I've had three xotics (BB, RC, EP) but never at the same time so it's hard to share an opinion how they'd flow together. I like lwbs assessment of the RC. The BB was the softest, most compressed IMO. The RC was pretty transparent and open but nothing magical happened to make you smile when you step on it....which the EP DID. The EP stacks better than the others with 'other' drives as well I think, especially the darker Red Shift/Zen clone I had. Yeah, the EP is the one I miss. The RC is in the car waiting to be moved.
huh... well, fwiw, I still like the RC! heh
..well, i have a good reason...the Timmy kicked it off my carpet.
I was trying the RC in the Vox Nightrain era...probably not the perfect amp for that pedal.
Anyway with the Strat and the Vox the RC sounded like a Microamp with an EQ section. Basically a good sounding preamp.
About the BB and Fulldrive together, here's a clip I've recorded using them with the Ac15

I'm loving the AC in this clip, holding it's own against the Zen, kinda has me gassing to swap the RC for the AC one now.

edit: will have to check out the lwb vid when I get home and have nicer speakers..
how did I miss the lwb video? that's really cool - and the LWB signature strat... hah, cool! that was fulldrive -> BB? now I need to try that AND BB -> fulldrive...!!
AC > Zen imo. more open. but I think the bogner blue is covering those bases for me -- not the same, of course, but mid gain... not that I use it anymore... sigh, $300 for three months of fun... heh.
lwb's youtube page has great stuff on it fyi!! been enjoying the vids this morning :)

No kidding!
THIS ONE which starts with a backing track from our own Jon G is quite lovely. Very Gilmourish. :)
Thread necromancy....
I have the BB+ which is two overdrives that I can flip flop the order with a push of a button. It is the pedal that made me seriously consider selling the OCD AND the Fulldrive 2. The Fulldrive 2 has been a desert island pedal forever for me. The BB+ is the type of pedal that you can set the knobs to anything and just get bitchin' tone. I just love that pedal. I typically don't stack it as there is no need to. SOMETIMES I use my klon with it but only to add a bit more volume for a lead to jump out over top the mix. Depends on who I'm using the Klon also. sometimes I use it to add a touch of bottom end to make it just a shade warmer.
