just a jam for now (still figuring out the new "cab" - tweaks needed) - but this was a fun one, I'll have to come back and ruin it later! ;) :D

excellent take lwb!
thanks Ironsheep, glad you liked it!

If your take was just a sound check, oh well, I doubt that you could "ruin"  this BT !! :)

Ciao!

Excellent takes from both. Good job.  :)

It is hard to play on such a slow tempo. It takes more control.

Anyway, here is mine:

I had a go at this last night and thought my solo had a familiar tune to it, and then I realised it sounded like a clapton tune (not sure which one but last 10 years etc).  I will have another go later.
Thanks for letting us know.  8-)

What's the problem ? All my playing is based on a mere "copy & paste" of what I listen to.. what I add are the errors..  ;D
Here's my go at it.  A bit lame on my part.   I find the trouble with very slow pieces is that I am so concious of trying not to hit a bum note that it makes me not attempt some stuff which would sound really good (if I didn't fuck it up that is) Anyway, here it is

Best tone I've heard from you Jon. Not only your best but it is a commercial recording quality without any doubt. I am serious.

Was it Kemper?

Why thank you !,  mind you, Marco has created a lovely track to play along with.

Part Kemper.  Profile 000Fe BassmanNo1 with the cab switched off and then using an IR cab in Reaper, and reverb is an IR in reaper too.

Mostly played with fingers until the final section where I used a pick, les paul neck pickup all the way.

Which IR Cab? I want to give it a go.

Here you go !

I think I might punch-in and correct that fuck-up at the end tomorrow....it's really niggling me !
I ended up with this using that IR Cab:

I like it. Tight and dynamic. High end needs some taming tho which I will work on.

Tears in Heaven! Great sound.

Ah, that's the one.  When I was playing this I knew it sounded familiar and I knew it was clapton-ish......bugger !
Awesome take Jon ! Sounds fantastic !

Just a question: what's the average size of a saved KPA preset ? KB / MB ? While with a POD or other equipments the saved infos are about parameters for a certain kind of amp/pedal/etc, with the KPA everything is dynamic...no amp type, no knob settings... so I'm just wondering what the hell they store in a file (if not a sort of IR wave file)  ;)

Ciao!
Marco

Nice take takes Zonta ! Nice sounds too ! (I prefer the second one..) ;)

They are very small, only about 4k !!!

My guess is that the settings that are captured just instruct the in-built basic "amp" to setup the EQ, distortion level, bias, vintage or modern sound etc and then applies that to the basic amp sound...and does a very good job too.   I think the cab section is mostly EQ  although it does capture a very short amount of room space....very short.  Kemper have said they don't use IR, but I suspect they actually do, albeit a very short one for the cab.  The cabs do sound (or can sound) very good, but the lack of length in the capture is an annoyance to me as it simply cannot capture a roomy sound.  It's great when you are up against the grill or 10 inches back, but if you go a few feet away the results are not good.

edit:  oh yes, and thanks by the way  :)

This is really beautiful.

This is what I wish I thought of to play, and how I wish it sounded. Is this the uber through an impulse?  That's unreal.
Flexi through impulse for that - I'm trying to get the uber tweaked to sound good on this track at the moment, take two coming if I ever get it set up.
Off topic: Ironsheep, you have a PM ! :)

Off topic part II: Thanks a lot Ironsheep !!

some more, but with the uber... not all of this works tonally, particularly the second half with some testing material in it and a lead that doesn't sit in the mix. first half isn't too bad.

going to be awhile before I figure out how to dial the amp for these impulses but they sound pretty damn good - better than my mic work, I'd say.

Listened to every take and as usual, great playing from all! And I must say everyone found really fitting tones, but me that is...so excuse the tone, not where I wan't it. I just loaded this backing up because I was gonna mess around with the different 5-way switch positions just for a goof to see how they'd sound in a mix, no real thought was going into the melody and what not (I sure kept going back to the same note or two - lazy, lol) but before I knew it, things were happening so I played more carefully. Guess it was because it's a super fun track to play over!! Definitely don't like my tone on this take and was not going to post it, but screw it, sometimes what I hate others may like (sometimes  ;D).

Ballady Take.mp3
playing outweighs tone every time in my book - very nice!

Thanks! You too, both takes - such warm, easy on the ears tones and playing. Bastid.  ;)
