Wow ! NICE takes guys !!
@Fingers: liked a lot the sound !
@Ironsheep: What do you want to tweak ???? ;)
Thanks ! Marco

I probably shouldn't have switched strats a few weeks ago - have to redial everything.
can't play that well with one ear on tone and the other on the BT... lol. :'(
nice takes btw!
Lwb#8 · Jan 13, 2011 21:15 UTC
The same happens to me .. I do not like to play paying more attention to sounds than to what I'm playing .. ... Anyway, even if I had your sounds, I would not be able to play better ! ;)
Any advice about a good wah pedal ?
At the moment I own a VOX...and it's one of the worst pedals I've ever had.. When it's turned off, it kill my guitar signal...when ON it's just terrible ! :D
Ciao ! Marco

I use a fulltone Clyde deluxe - very happy with it.
it was sure pricey for a wah, but it's been in use for 4-5 years now and still works. so that's pretty awesome for a wah - still original pot too, not scratchy yet (amazing, imo).
so, really, it's ended up cheaper compared to the dunlop wahs that I've gone through over the years. those would only last for a month or so, it seemed.
another one that sounds cool (but mine was horribly unreliable) - snarling dogs whine-o wah. can't really recommend it due to mine dying... but it did sound different/great.

Cool jam sheep.
Interesting info on the clyde - need to get a wah, think I have asked you before a few years ago and you said clyde then.

amp tweaks...
after 5 years, I'm just now trying to use the uber's clean channel - heh.
the first part is the clean channel with RC (just a little pre gain and treble roll off - not hitting the amp with boost), then adds FD2 after the chord part. promising - balancing out the volume without pedals is pretty tough... I wind up with some overdrive that I don't want - it can be really cool but the FD2 feels too compressed and seems to throw off some icepicks with the neck pickup due to my lack of a light picking technique (I guess). dunno, I'm on the learning curve when it comes to dialing in a clean amp... so... should get better, this go around was kinda meh (overdriving on the chord part in particular).
from the bug drum fill onwards, it's the gain channel with RC still on but FD2 off. not perfect (plenty of less than notable riffs here as well) but more open sounding.
what this all means, of course, is that I ordered a BB to go with the RC for the clean channel. lolgas... :/
probably going to try out the dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge at some point too - it's a JB right now, but I forgot to order f-spaced when I got it... about time I got around to fixing that and I'm super curious about the AT-1 anyway.

Remind me of the kit - RC and BB ???
clean channel sounds elegant and sweet.
It's a more distant and blanketed sound and the distorted chords are a bit smeary and muddy. didn't notice any ice pick, a harder pick attack probably from pedal distortion
in comparison with the gain channel later that is.
The EQ on the gain channel is quite different - much tighter on the bass
Sounds like on the clean you need to roll the bass off and set things with mid and treb

the RC and BB are made by xotic - RC's a clean boost and BB is more of a drive thing... not real sure, will know more wednesday-ish when it gets here. it's supposed to be more of a gain box but not really crazy distortion... I'm anticipating an FD2 style gain (tube screamer) without the EQ compression/voicing.
I got the ice picks on my monitors but they didn't show up on a different speaker pair... so that's kind of a win for the monitors I guess? heh.
yeah, the clean side EQ is still a real mystery to me... there's so much less volume/compression, I'm not used to it. it sounds fairly unpleasant when it overdrives.. but I have to get it as loud as it can possibly be before that sets in to have any hope of matching with the gain channel. as it is, the gain channel volume is around 9 o'clock with master wide open and the clean side is just (relatively) hard to hear with it's volume dimed. the controls on it interact somewhat and they effect gain on their band... the presence knob is not the traditional presence knob - not sure what it does exactly, other than make it sound more dimensional or something... it's a real tweak challenge. this is probably why I put off trying to figure it out for the last few years... ;)
fingers#14 · Jan 15, 2011 04:04 UTC
Yeah - clean boost needed for clean in that scenario - that will break up to bluesyish though.
you need a loud fender amp in another cupboard for cleans :)
CraigB#15 · Jan 15, 2011 04:47 UTC
Or a nice Mig 50 - best cleans I've ever heard! ;)
Lwb#16 · Jan 16, 2011 17:48 UTC
Thanks for the info Ironsheep ! I'll try soon the Clyde...here it's about at 300 Euro ! Not bad for a wah pedal.. :o
Listened to your second take: awesome ! Talking about sounds, I like the second part more. Despite the high gain, it sounds very "clear" with an incredible note separation ! Great !
