Hi !
Something I recorded to test my new Epiphone LP Standard Vs. original Gibbo.

BT @ 120 bpm.

here the bt: www.lwbguitars.net/Music/GibPhoneBT.mp3

here my take : www.lwbguitars.net/Music/GibPhone.mp3

On my take the original and the "copy" are panned left and right so (...if you're interested :) ) you can hear the difference between the two with the same amp settings.. :)

Ciao!

FB, nice take & nice sonds ! Liked a lot the intro !

IronSheep, I like a lot this kind of fat sound ! It seems there's a slight treble increase (in a good way..) compared with your "old" takes... Am I wrong ?

Ciao !
Marco
nope, not wrong!

changed mics... I can use more treble and not have it sound like sm57 noise :)
+1 to that, Sheep!

And, these takes all sound great.  Matt, I demand that you immediately tell me what you used.  Your recording seems much more "polished" on this one.  The mix is not great, but the guitar track itself, is something I haven't heard from you.  Tell me what you've done, because you've "got better" at recording.
Sorry for taking so long I've not been home for several days now.

I'm using the exact same stuff I've used for ages Howie.

I think the ONE thing I did differently.....was the oldest trick in the book........I back off the distortion quite a bit while using more (can you believe it?) volume.

I use an SM58 mic that is nipple ringed to my Tone Spotter Speaker which is in my Peavey Classic 50....which has had some tube changes...but it's the SAME set up that was at WHS 08.

The mic goes into Richards old....and I mean OOOOLLLLDDDDD by now....omni i/o by M-Audio.

I use Reaper.

I used the Nez, you know what I've done to it....sooooooooooo.

I used the OCD.  I cranked the tone up to about 2:30....I normally have it at noon on humbucker guitars.   The Volume was at unity and the gain was set at around 10.....I THINK I was on the high gain setting.

I used a DD-3 with the knobs pretty much straight up.  I back off the volume and feedback just a smidge.

Now.....assuming my 3 year old hasn't come in and futzed with my gear since the last time I used it....that's what he settings were! HAHAHAHAHAA

Now as far as mixing goes....I suck ass at it.  I need a pair of monitors.  I do everything through headphones and I think they are bass heavy.  Everything I do I think the guitar is TOO LOUD in the mix.  IS that what you are hearing to?

So does this apply just to the rhythm parts or to the leads as well?  I like the rhythm tone more on the left guitar, when I just listen to the bt.  When I listen to the track with the leads, I like the leads more from the right side.  What's your amp for this, btw?  These are some really nice sounds.  It's pretty cool when someone takes the time to really craft a "song" for a BT.
Hi Charger, thanks !

Both the left & right rythm parts were played with the Epiphone LP Standard. The right channel was on the clean amp's channel + a touch of chorus (VST)

The leads were: Left = Epi, Right = Gibson LP Studio.

The amp used was the H&K Statesman 1x12, now replaced by the Laney LionHeart.
The Statesman is a great sounding amp but to achive the sounds like the ones in this take (as smooth as possible :) ) it must be cranked...and a cranked 20 watt at home is terribly LOUD. ..almost impossible to use, at least for me  ! :)

Ciao !
