The Watering Hole

Friday Night Jams

Sort of a song. I was playing it over and over while my lovely daughter was trying to do homework. Guitar noodling is a soundtrack to life in the evenings here and my family is very tolerant (I don't think they even hear it anymore) but the math inspired many lamentations...

Got in the mood to record it yesterday so I don't lose the idea. Thought it might make an ok jam. No time spent refining anything though.

110 bpm - down a half step.

My first attempt.

well, this is a very nice tune! I noodled a bit but will put together something more thoughtful (hopefully) soon.

your take is quite nice, Tobe! what did you use for distortion in the second half? that sounds really cool.
Thanks Sheep!

This might make you laugh...

The Pod HD has a preamp only mode and some of the preamp models work pretty well running into the VHT Special 6. In principal, similar to a Super Champ XD. I used the SLO crunch preamp with the drive up. The S6 was in low power mode and that warms up the tone and provides some nice sustain (+tube compression!). I turned down the volume knob on my Strat to just break up slightly with a light touch. e906 mic.

I'm sure your good ears could tell it is mixed with the cleaner tone from the first half, which I intended to remove but left after I had a listen.
First of all, good job Tobe.  Sounds good and good playing!

Now, I'm not going to laugh, but yeah that is an unusual gear setup.  Do you have an S6 or S6 Ultra?  If you have the standard S6 then you are running the POD into the input????  Even more unusual.   Seems to work fine here though!  And, the low power mode is soft and sort of lifeless on it's own, but again, seems to work well here.
not laughing here! that lead tone sounded pretty cool to me - like it had a very light organ click going on.

here's a shot at the bt... got a little crowded (and maybe too loud) in the mix but so it goes.

Sounds good to me.  A nice little tune !
:) Nice one Sheep! Way cool... How did you do that.

For the lead I am pretty sure I had the Rat distortion running on the same patch about 40% drive. Thought you meant the BT. I am sure the bt was bleeding in a bit.

Yeah Howie - plugged into the input. It is not the Ultra and I don't think the low power setting is bad at all. Just the preamp section of the hd model with no cab or mic emulation - gives me eq and drive options. I treat it like a distortion pedal. The tone knob on the amp set below noon helps with the fizz and harshness.  ;) It takes pedals so well I thought why not try the hd?
I liked the bt guitars too... that lead tone was cool though!

thanks! how did I do it? lots of delay! ... and the (lately) ubiquitous ebows.
with "a bit" of delay...  :)

Here's my take.

Nice tune, Tobe! Thanks for sharing.

Marco,
My pleasure! Listened to your take through several times. I like it!

Sheep,
eBows are cool. Bow ties too...
Hey Marco, great playing and melody !
Thanks for listening ! :)

@Tobe: Nice playing and tones! Guitar sound is awesome!

@Ironsheep: I was talking about my delay posting the take..but your delay into the take is great ! :)

@Jon: Thanks ! Glad you liked it!

Ciao!
wows all around. I need to get on this stuff!
Late to the party, glad it's still going though. Sweet, mellow song, Tobe, thanks for sharing! No surprises, excellent, diverse takes as usual across the board!

Pressed for time (and ideas ;D ) yesterday, short take..

pft, short takes.  ;D

great playing as usual... upper mids have ridiculous clarity, wow. are you chopping off the low end in the mix or...?
Thanks!

Uh oh, are you saying the tone needs more lows? I didn't touch the BT, just raised its volume some and balanced in my guitar on another track.
nah, it's fine. just sounded like it was kinda high passed or something.
Thanks D!

Nice take. Glad you jumped in on this one. Rivera? I like clear lead tones and have trouble getting the grease and clarity balanced.

It's over too quickly...
lol...tough crowd, I only shaved off like 1/3 (0:30)!

Thanks Tobe! Yeah, good call, the Rivera on its clean channel - which goes from pure clean to pretty darn crunchy, which I love. With the gain up, it sounds like a hot rodded Fender. I've been setting it for a light crunch and then using the Timmy for a smooth/clean boost. With the amp cranked up loud and some Flashback dealy it's plenty greasy to solo with.
