Gave myself a new laptop for my birthday and can record again.
It seems like I've forgotten everything but here is an attempt at a jam.

That's crying out for some big fat crunchy AC/DC rythmn guitars

I agree! I will put up another version when I get time.

Sounds good, Tobe. Good to see you. Happy Holidays all!! I still check in every few days.

I'll try this out soon - haven't been playing much lately but the urge has returned... heh.

I like your new take. Is that a harmonica? I went back and listened to the original post and it sounds different than I remember. The first time I listened I thought it was a jam that you had already added some stuff to, so I didn't try to mess with it. (not that I could). Anyway I like your takes and I will try something when I can. Thanks for posting.
akatomcox#9 · Jan 28, 2016 16:21 UTC
Reworked the backing track and uploaded the wrong file.
Will upload later this evening.
It is my pod hd harmonizer. Started messing with it and just left it on.
Jon_G#10 · Jan 28, 2016 17:33 UTC
I just had a crack at this. Nice upbeat happy tune, lots of feel good factor in this.
Not sure but my guitar and bass sounds a bit off pitch to your track. It sounded OK when I recorded it but think I might have screwed something up somewhere along the line.
Anyway, here goes.

Sounds great to me Jon but I've only listened ten times or so. ;D
I was feelin' it...
A touch of Thin Lizzy vibe to mine and yours too.
Here's BT without harmonizer:

so tobe, I like the melodies... but you really didn't play any of those harmonies? there was a spot where it sounded like two parts - just a very slight offset or something. huh, that's pretty cool for an effect.
and jon is playing over tobe's lead? you guys are confusing me! lol. ok, I can hear jon now... cool riff - I like the laid back JonG playing.
akatomcox#14 · Jan 29, 2016 04:36 UTC
There was one spot that I added a higher note also through the smart harmony effect. You excellent ears are correct, there were two parts there. Added that on a whim and it sounded cool so I mixed it a tad lower and left it. I also learned vibrato has to be subtle when playing through that effect.
My timing makes me grimace in a few places but what matter a few clams among friends?
Nice clear tone and tasty noodling there Sheep.
There is a different version of the backing track just above - GroveTake2bt. Jon got one that I didn't mute a lead track on but it's cool anyway.
Jon_G#15 · Jan 29, 2016 07:14 UTC
I thought the backing track was a bit crowded :) I must have downloaded your full track instead of just the backing track. I've swapped out the first track I used as the backing for your bt with no harmony guitars and everything fits now...I think. I've updated the link in my previous post but here it is again in this post too. Now I'll go and listen to your takes.
Edit: I couldn't hear the bass on the bt so I added my own, but I now realise I got the progression a bit wrong so there are some discordant bass notes in there...ho hum

ah, I thought the other tracks were jams on the first one - I had downloaded the first one when you posted the thread but didn't get around to it then, so had the track already and just used that one.
adding an extra harmony in there makes it sound very natural, even if it wasn't for the whole melody part. making a mental note of that! heh :)

At 0:56 this just goes about 10 levels deeper. I love the mode you are using there.

Same as sheep... at :56 you take this to another level, it's mellow, clean, and really tasty. I need to play on this jam just to find out what happens at 0:56...

Well, I really love the light stuff you do starting at about :56... ;)
ironsheep#20 · Feb 01, 2016 23:55 UTC
that's mostly melodic minor based on the four as root... whatever that's called... Hindu? essentially mixolydian with a flat six, I think. have to admit, I'm fairly obsessed with that scale and it's modes lately.
ironsheep#21 · Feb 03, 2016 20:11 UTC

(btw, it was worth the practice to play in C#maj and all but... were you tuned down a half? heh)

ironsheep — Feb 03, 2016 were you tuned down a half? heh
Have had a cold that has been hard to shake off - haven't checked back for a few days. I think I am over it, mostly.
I was tuned down a half. I have done that for so long I forgot to mention it. Off to give your new take a few plays.
Nice...
ironsheep#23 · Feb 10, 2016 19:41 UTC
hey, so I have a question...
is it against the fnj rules (code of ethical fnj'ing... or what have you, heh) to rerecord the bt material (like the progression) and make a tune around my take?
I kinda like the second take idea and might want to make a tune of it... but want it all to sound like me ;D
heh, anyways, just curious about this - I respect your music/bt (the part about it being yours being most relevant here) and don't want to make off with anything before asking about it!
akatomcox#24 · Feb 11, 2016 15:10 UTC
Go for it!
Thanks for asking and dont forget me if it becomes a hit. ;)
Would love to hear. I know the bt is not very good quality. I would like to record it again too. Maybe faster and a bit more attention to detail.
Have fun!
