Powered down California I-5, to I-210, to I-10, 14 hours at 70 mph plus, got home safe and sound. Left near Loch Lomond California, at 4:15 AM Pacific Time, got here in Arizona at 5:58 PM Az standard time, which is the same hour as Pacific Daylight time. If every trip on that route was as traffic hiccup free as it was today, it would happen more often.....
Dude, Loch Lomond is like 10 miles from me, and we had our weekly jam last night, you could have popped in if you dropped me a line!
You don't drive 14 hours straight do you ????  The most I've ever driven without a break is 6 hours, I couldn't do more than that without falling into a deep sleep !

Loch Lomond is also a town in Lake County up by Clear Lake way above Sacramento. http://california.hometownlocator.com/ca/lake/loch-lomond.cfm I think you mean the one near you is in Santa Cruz County.  I was near the one in Lake County.

Yep I did it with about 3 extra pee stops and 4 gas/pee stops. Cooler full of food, bottled water and  a thermos each full of coffee, and we'd eat/drink at 70 MPH plus. The wifey would sleep part of the way, but I drove it by myself.

Jon I have been able to drive for long long hours for most of my adult life. In fact when I was a family man with 2 boys we would hear there was surf coming on the west coast of the US and we lived on the east coast on an Island out in the ocean off of the South New Jersey Coast. Anyways we'd start out at 4:00 Am and we would be surfing North County San Diego California some 3400 miles plus away on the afternoon of the 3rd day. I'd drive from 4:00 Am to midnight for 2 days and from 4:00 Am to about 3:00 PM on the 3rd day. Then I would sleep for 12 to 14 hours that night. I'd pack those 2 boys and several of their friends in my van with all the surfboards up on top and off we'd go.

When I first moved up to the Pacific Northwest and still had property (and my Mom) down south I would drive the 1,100 miles all in one shot.  Four gas stops each way - the fastest being 15.5 hours the night after my dad dropped in an outdoor mall (they thought I might still have a chance to see him before he passed away but he was already declared brain dead).  The usual trip was 18 hours driving and only once did I stop at a rest stop for a quick nap.  When possible I always drive through the night to avoid the most traffic.
"Hats off" to your stamina, as I said before 6 hours is my limit at which time I just have to sleep....mind you part of that is probably down to diabetes etc.

I'm with ya Dave.  Driving doesn't phase me much.  Three years ago, when I picked my Mom's new car up in California, I drove from Napa to WV in 3 days.  They were long days, but not that bad.

The only time driving bothers me is when it gets after midnight.  That is when I fade real fast.

Yep me too. I can drive until a bit after dark these days because the cataracts in my eyes make the lights far brighter looking to me than before I had them.(Y'all will find out about cataracts if you reach above 60 years old which I hope all of you do)
Hope you had a good time, DBM.  Vacations is good!

I actually liked the drive up through the desert in Arizona and Nevada, and I actually went on some roads I never traveled before. One of which was like a roller coaster ride, they did not bother to level out the roads  :D. Hy 120 in eastern central Ca. it went from Hy 6 in Nevada/Ca. to Hy 395 near Mono Lake. If you like roller coaster rides this is the road for you. Then after a bit on hy 395 we hit Hy 89 which took us to hy 88 to a resort that one of my wife's clients owns. Kit Carson Lodge, a bit SW of Lake Tahoe. We stayed the night free and got a free dinner, (although we did not need dinner our cabin had a stove and refrigerator and we had a cooler full of different foods as always when we travel on the roads). Then we went to Cobb area California to my sister in laws house for 4 days. I was bored silly after 2 days and could not wait to get on the road again, but I did have a guitar and amp with me and my brother in law and niece are musicians, so I could play my BT's through their PA and jam along. That kept me sane as well as the games on my i-pad. But once I got below Sacramento and Stockton with no traffic snarls I was good to go the four hours til I reached Santa Clarita and the LA area. But I sailed through there at about noon, so there was relatively little traffic. I miss my RV'ing because I would have taken my time on the road and stopped at different places instead of blazing my way up and down. I hate motels so I usually try that trip without any layovers.
