The Watering Hole

Alright.....long story short I FINALLY got with it and broke down and bought a Video camera that shoot in HD.  So what I am wanting to know is what do you guys do to match up say a backing track to your live guitar feed?  

I don't have monitors.....should I break down and buy those?  OR is it that you guys are editing the video with a track somehow?

I don't know shit about this type stuff so anythign you guys can tell me would greatly help.

This is how I currently do it (working on some new stuff soon)

1. Record video and camcorder audio on Canon HDEF video camera
2. Record high quality audio direct into the DAW
3. At the start of the recording I clap my hands to create a large spike in the audio in both the camcorder    
   audio track and the high quality audio track.
4. Mix down the high quality audio track to a stereo wav
5. Open the video (including the camcorders own audio track) in Sony Vegas Pro
6. Import the audio into the same sony vegas pro session
7. Slide the high quality audio track so that the spike where I clapped my hands is in exactly the same place  
   as it is in the camcorder audio track.
8. Mute the camcorder audio track.
9. Render the video and high quality audio track to HD WMV

very straight forward.

Whatever you do, get a tripod.  You'll be thanking yourself when you and Mrs. Fenderbender go to make some of your 'ho-made' movies for private time.  Nothing ruins the mood more than you getting hit in the head with the camera because you thought an ankle cam view would be cool...HAHAHA!!
