I'm going to get my wife a camera for Christmas. She took photography in College and wants to start taking some pictures, possible as a side job, kinda thing.

She wants a Cannon or Nikon. (SLR)

So what's the best camera for the best price? I don't know anything about them. I remember Kev's camera thread at the WH but can't even remember what it was about. Could have turned religious for all I know.

Suggestions??

Purpose would be a simi perfessional type camera for doing weddings etc. As well as personal use of course.

(I put this here to see if anyone would respond.) Hope thats o.k. Charger. :)

Jesus Christ, man... Pop back in to second grade for a spell, would ya? :D

BCL had me run down the DSLR route... not for me... too much shit to know and play with. For your wife, though, with the schooling, that may be fine. BCL recommended a camera... cost a grand with the lens... Good luck... it is daunting.
I have a canon EOS 400D SLR.  Can't fault it. Excellent camera, fantastic images, and really fantastic low-light capability.   I've always been biased towards Canon, but then again Nikon are really good too.  Your choice really!
i love my rebel xti. I dont think you can go wrong with canon or nikon. really the body is the easy part to buy. Id put some time into researching lenses and get her a couple of nice lenses and skip on the kit lense.  she'll also want a nice flash and tripod. be prepared to empty out your wallet.
We have a Canon camera, 8 mega pixel with a 6x optical zoom. My wife also has an old Nikon Film Camera with quite a few of the Nikon lenses. We never used those lenses much so when we went digital we bought a Canon. I don't know offhand what model it is but it works well. For Semi Pro you ought to go Nikon, so you can affix those fancy lenses and that will give you many years of birthday and Christmas present possibilities, buying those lenses.
Well, got her the Cannon EOS Rebel XSI. Seems to get good reviews. I did get the special with the extra lens. She's already got a flash, and small pod. I hope she likes it. Expensive shit. I can't even turn the fucker on. ;D (Kidding)

I get the point and shoot to use durring my bike rides. Of course, she wasn't pleased with it, it was only $400 fucking bucks. Shit. This better be the last damn camera for a while. ;D
