There is a place called Tiger Direct. They have some killer deals on stuff quite often.

I build my own. I built a Core2Duo 2.4 gig with 2 gigs of RAM and two hard drives with an Antec Sonata Case for just a little over 6 hundred bucks. (I already had the OEM XP Pro CD) Zip Zoom Fly is where I got the stuff. This box is for my office work, it smokes my DAW but the DAW is error free totally so I don't mess with that.
I build my own. My current PC cost me about $600. I priced out a similar computer for DTR. It may seem daunting but it's actually pretty easy, and if you are willing to settle for components that are one or two steps below top of the line in speed, etc, you can get a killer system for way cheaper than you can get it from a box store for. But there are a lot of very affordable pre-built systems out there too... the downside to those is Windows Vista, which I am avoiding at all costs.
Newegg is my favorite parts shop.
I usually build my own, but I've used this company and can definitely recommend them.
