Off topic a little bit;
The martial art I studied Wing Chun Kung Fu, was started at the Sil Lim Temple in ancient China many moons ago It was a combination of the very best techniques of the 5 traditional Kung Fu styles. The Manchu's who ruled at the time heard about it, and came in burned the temple to the ground and wiped out every single monk in the temple except one nun who happened to be in town. They did this with the then modern weapons, and vastly superior numbers.
So she went on the run, and many years later she entered a martial arts contest and got in the finals and was defeated by a man whom she had the hots for. Once they were married she told him. Well we are married now so let me teach you Wing Chun. And his answer was "why I defeated you in the contest why should I learn your style"? She told him, I let you win, so he invited her outside to clarify his superiority. She defeated him easily. Later on she had a daughter Ylim Wing Chun which means hope for the future and secretly she taught her the art. Which she handed down to family only for many years. Until it was OK to teach it publicly. So the original grand masters of which that nun was one of was the only one who survived to propagate the art. Knowing that style, I would never in a million years demean any female martial artist, especially if she was a Traditional Wing Chun Master. The art came down to Yip Man in modern times who taught Bruce Lee, and our grand master William Cheung.
