.ogg is another compression format, it to alot of ppl is better than mp3, computer media players now can play .ogg, typically file size is larger but you dont' get the same artifacts mp3 has.
.flac is a lossless format used by radio, the thing here is you can use a program like cdex and convert either the .ogg or .flac to mp3. for your ipod.
my recommendation is to get .flac as you can re-encode it to whatever you want without anymore degradation than a normal .wav to mp3.
plus you can burn it to cd if you want and it will be the same quality as normal, whereas if you burn a mp3 to cd you still have the degraded audio mp3 generates.
