About 4 years ago I developed a software system for managing the students, teachers and lesson payments for a music academy.  The software works fine no problems.

Just recently they sold the business to a much larger music academy and they have asked me to quote for additional programming to add some more features and to move the system to a new server.  All fine so far.

I just received an email this morning saying that my prices were too high and that they could get a completely new system built for half that price.  This is odd in that I specifically gave them a very keen price in order to secure continued business, but I'll be fucked if I will give my services away !    I just spoke to him and advised him that if he can get a new system built for less than my revision fee then I am surprised that he doesn't just go ahead and do that.......that fucked him !

I'm really not interested in being shafted by clients. I had some of that a few months back and am now in a position where I can say "fuck off" to business that I don't want.

I hear you there.  Thanks to it being an election year here, many of our prospective customers aren't getting the financial help they want from the dear 'ol Government so they try to ask for the moon.  Thanks to the connections and previous employment by my business partner, we were getting VERY attractive buying levels from our main vendor (WAY below normal for a company of our size and far less than someone going direct).  However, even with that and diddly squat for overhead, every customer last year wanted to buy full systems for less than our costs of parts alone!  Needless to say, that's one of the reasons I'm going back into the IT world again.
Man my wife is always going back to vendor's to get a better price.  She is constantly watching the market so as when to buy the right materials at the right time.  It's the nature of the business.  But in the volume in which she buys materials a few cents change which is normally what she is negotiating on makes hundreds of thousands of dollars difference.  On enough programs that turns into millions of dollars saved over the course of the year which turns into a nice fat bonus check for her.
I think the same thing when I think of my ex-wife.
