The Watering Hole

You should (if you use AVG Free v8.0).  There's a missing .bin file issue that just started and I got the error along with lots of others. AVG is working to fix the issue, but here's a solution that works (I just did this):

1 - Start up AVG, click Update Now.
2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.
3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iavi1616oo.bin - because this is causing the problem.
4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.
Thanks for the info.
But it didn't work like that for me. After clicking on "more info", I was redirected to the AVG update web site:
http://free.avg.com/ww.download-update-appf8
There is 2 update files in there for the same fix:  Added detection of new variant of Win32/Virut, Worm/Agobot, new variant of trojan BackDoor.RBot
-AVI 270.6.4
-IAVI:/1616
The second link doesn't work (HTTP 404)
If you click on the first one, it works.
I got the same error before I saw this. Have just this minute finished uninstalling/ reinstalling AVG.Everything is now working ok, I guess avg have sorted the problem.
Oh and hi everybody, I made it across straight away and as usual been lurking in the background ever since.
I got the same error, I just went to bed and woke up and updated and everything is fine, it updated correctly.
I'm so glad.....I had the SAME fucking issue last night and it was totally pissing me off.

Um, that's exactly what was supposed to happen TB.  You click on "more info" and go to the AVG update web site.  Then you copy all files EXCEPT THE LAST ONE to a directory on your hard drive.  It's that last one that was causing the issue.

Anyway, AVG was on the ball and cleared everything up.  Not bad considering the price, eh?  ;)
The issue I've been having until VERY recently with it was the message "A .bin file is missing".
Updating wouldn't fix it, but it seems to have corrected itself now.
Thanks for the heads-up though.
It would not update this morning. It took me 4 tries to get it to update.
