He runs a Boss GT 6 (or similar - the 'gold' one) through the front for ALL of his sounds....

His rig is a 1970's Marshall Valve Head and Quaddie which must sound awesome; but he wants flexability.... Yeah; he gets great U2 delay sounds and Pink Floyd leads etc; - great...  But his standard rock sounds suck.....

He's auditioning for our band; and the other guys love him as he has the licks; the gear and the ability to record us.  But being the other guitarist (and if you're on this forum you are a tone junkie) his digital sounds are killing me.

This is (in my opinion) the only thing going against him..  Any suggestions on how to mention to him and the rest of the boys???  Or do I just suck it up...

Not a chance. Say what you are thinking in a nice way. If he wants hi gain sounds that sound good, help him to decide on a nice stomp for that purpose and put it through the GT 10.

I mentioned the Hotplate as a solution; because we all know (me, him, you guys) that his amp will be way to loud - so I've already offered mine as a loner. His reply was 'lets compromise - we'll spend time getting the sounds out of the boss exactly as you want them...." Sounds. fine. Tone. sucks arse.

And the problem is the other guys love his sounds..... (Wow!!! He can play floyd and U2 - All you can play is AC DC and Dolly Parton. (Joking about the AC DC btw))

But he's on board..... I'll get him to love us/me so bad that he won't wanna leave when I change his tone....

Think Pretty Woman.

That's me.

LOL!  ;D
DBM nailed it. See if he would use the natural distortion from the amp, and use the Boss as a stomp/effects processor. The upside is that he can achieve all of the different 'sounds' that amaze the other guys in the band while maintaining tone. The downside is that he wouldn't have a patch he could simply stomp on for louder solos...if it is an older one channel beast. If it has 2 channels...he is in business.
