I was on vacation, so I'm just now getting to posting this...but I drove to Houston to see King's X and Extreme last Tuesday. It was fucking incredible.
Extreme sounded great - Nuno's still a fucking monster, and Pat Badger played extremely well with new drummer Kevin Figueiredo - they were tight and the band sounded awesome.
King's X never fails to kick complete ass - they weren't even terribly active on stage and they sounded incredible.
Both bands played a really diverse and entertaining mix of songs from their whole careers (from their first albums to their new albums), and engaged the crowd like the pros they truly are.
Overall, worth the 3 1/2 hour drive each way, but it's not something I'd do again simply because I was useless on Wednesday (thank goodness I didn't have to go to work).
Anyone else see this tour? This one was one of the only shows that didn't have the "Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp" bullshit as the opening act - they had a crappy local band named Rowe who kept playing even when they were told to stop (it was pathetic enough that they turned the fucking mics off - what a gaggle of dumbshits, crapping on a good opportunity like opening for two great bands like King's X and Extreme)
For you gearheads:
Nuno was playing his original N4 (the WHOLE SHOW except for the Acoustic part) through some weird-but-cool-looking custom Randall amps that sounded GREAT.
Ty was playing his Yamaha custom guitar through his custom Egnater modular preamp (modules like the Randall RM series - Bruce built them specifically for him) into a Randall RM power amp and some Egnater cabs, using Line 6 Mod Pro and Delay Pro rack modules for effects.
It rocked. Hard. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
