Bummer...  I avoid Facebook like the plague!   We just spent four days recovering from a virus that came from there to our laptops (the sales guy clicked on a link from a trusted "friend" from there and *POOF!* really bad things happened).  Somehow this virus not only deactivated the virus protection, but permanently damaged some of the hardware somehow!  One old laptop is basically trash, we got the other back up and running though we lost a few files that hadn't been sent to me (I have the online backup service).  :(

Oh well! ::)

Sounds daunting. I rarely click on links there myself. But damaging the hardware is really scary.
The best way to use the web if you are not comfortable with FB and the chance of viruses etc is to use VMWARE.  Setup a virtual install of windows within VMWARE and use your facebook within your virtual windows. If it gets a virus is doesn't matter, you simply delete it completely and create another virtual windows from a clone of a clean copy.  I use it all the time.

If you need a copy of VMware, you have but to ask  ;)
Hmm...  Sounds interesting - I'll have to research this concept a bit!
I like facebook for some things.  I dislike that it's sending me 8 billion emails now though.  Gonna have to change my settings.  And--never install an app on facebook.  That's a sure fire way to get tracked, spammed, and hounded.

I tried the friend finder on facebook, soon enough Mark Gorrie e-mailed me and told me that my e-mail account had been hacked, it happened to others as well. Had to change my password 2x to get that to stop.

Yeah, sorry about that. I had no idea that simply by adding names to the group it would then immediately start sending everyone emails.  There's a lot of stuff like that on facebook that is all the wrong way around.  I would have thought it a better system if it was "opt-in" to emails rather than "opt-out".

Certainly don't use any apps on there at all.  I fell foul of one the other week that started sending emails out as if they were from  me, and as far as I know I never even clicked the damn thing in the first place.

It's really good though for keeping contacts alive.
