When I was heavy into trading Commodities I studied this area a lot as part of my technical analysis.  While there was a lot more to it than that, there's a lot of areas in markets that appear to be impacted by this science (growth, decay, target price-points, etc.).

BTW - One cool aspect about the Golden Ratio (and a reason it's called that) is that while a/b is about 1.618, b/a is the same without the 1 (i.e., about 0.618).
How many of you have heard of Bela Bartok?  For those who haven't, he consciously explored the use of the Golden Ratio in his orchestral, chamber, and solo music.  He wrote some amazing stuff.  

The video is cool.  The music in it has a Golden Ratio moment (the musical high point) right about where it should be.
