Had some pain Friday that seemed to be coming from my upper right jaw exactly where I have a crown (my only one on a tooth that I had a root canal done many years ago).  I thought maybe I bit down on something wrong or slept wrong and some Advil did the trick.  Unfortunately, I woke up Saturday morning at 5am with the pain again and figured I'd have to go to the dentist today.  Made it through the day with Advil, Tylenol and Aleve (trying each when the prior didn't do much).  The pain kept getting worse (still is too).  Couldn't sleep or eat so Sunday morning I called the dental emergency number and was given prescriptions for Ansaid and Vicadin (finally filled around 1pm).  They only helped a little but nowhere near enough. I was able to get into the dentist at 1pm (just got home).  As seems to be the norm lately, I had to go to one of the other branches to get in today and it's "only" 30 miles away...

They think something bad is happening under my existing crown so nothing really got done today except that I now have prescriptions for antibiotics and a stronger pain killer.  They said I needed to see a "specialist" to have the root canal revisited (huh?).  Then they said that the first available appointment was OCTOBER 27th!!!!  WTF???!  Thanks to the constant pain I've only had about 4-5 hours of sleep in the last three days and only two "soft" meals (soup).  After pressing they finally double-booked me in for this Friday which means doing nothing but being in pain for the next few days.  I can't even imagine what they were thinking when they wanted me to wait until almost November!  I wonder if that's going to be a preview of how Obama's new healthcare would be... :-?

This sucks!
Seems like that's how healthcare is *now*, not how it will be under anyone's plan.  Nice shot though.  Good luck with it.
Keep the faith amigo, the time will pass slowly I guess, but once it is all done it will just be a bad memory.

Yeah...we have great healthcare now don't we tooth boy? ;D

Now you know the pain us working folk feel everyday. ;D

What ticks me off is that there's nothing I could do to prevent this (since it's under the existing crown) with better brushing, flossing or rinsing...

I've been busy trying to come up with stuff to eat that doesn't involve any real chewing.  Things like soup, some pastas, Slim Fast, jello, pudding, peas, beaver...  ;)
Call Stratman and eat some boiled Armadillo tails. ;D ;D
:(

bummer... now I'm having paranoid thoughts about my own crown. heh, thanks! ;)
sorry criag b.

look on the bright side, if we had universal healthcare, you would be too old to get asssitance and coverage so
but not too old for more painkillers
Only a few more hours to go...  I can't wait to actually be able to eat something substantial (and not sleep all the time!).  :(

What a waste of an entire week! >:(
It's funny, but the one thing in the UK that IS much better by going private is the Dentist.  The NHS dentists are very few and far between and the service is not all that either.  We are private here on Denplan.  I had a real pain under one of my back teeth last year, really severe pain. Turned out to be an abcess, antibiotics would not cure it so the fucker had to come out.  I only had to wait about 4 hours for an appointment though, almost immediate treatment!
