So I go eat at this place called The Mellow Mushroom. Good piza, they even had Glenlivet on hand. I only drank 2 drinks. I get the bill, $8 each for the Glenlivet singles (compared to $4.75 at the local sports bar I sometimes frequent). That was no real big deal though, I have seen worse. But what pissed me off was that they charged me $1.00 each drink for ice. It was even itemized on the fucking reciept. I would have respected the management more had they just charged me $9 for each drink, withholding information as to the true cost of my drink and the accompanying ice.
Now, thinking about this, it makes absolutley no sense. I mean my girlfiend's son had 2 glasses of coke, each of which easily had more ice than my Scotch. I had a large water, which I did not order, which also had more ice than either of my drinks, perhaps even more than both combined. I did not even ask for it, and the ice sat there and melted as my meal progressed. What a wasteof potentially profitable ice, just giving it away free, unrequested, only for it to melt into worthless water.
But put that ice in some Scotch, and something magical happens, it becomes $1 a glass ice.
just do what I did. Quit drinking! :)
Just spent a weekend in Sedona Arizona, I don't even want to tell you about the prices in restaurants up there. Lets just say outrageous is an understatement.
However a buck a drink for ice is fucked up at least. The boyz at The Mellow Mushroom are mellow all the way to the bank.
was it a rocks charge? we slap that on a tab as an upcharge for going from 1 1/4 oz. to 2 oz. in a drink. if your drink was on the rocks it was an upcharge for the liquor
really? In all my years drinking I have never seen that. Then again, I usually don't look at my tab. Yes it was a rocks charge. Did not realize they gave me more Scotch though, guess for a buck it is worth it. Makes sense now.
I rarely drink anything when I'm having mellow mushrooms. No need. ;) :D ;D
Next time, try to return the rocks as damaged goods for melting. ;D

I'm sorry, I would've had to RAISE HELL....and at least tell them they need to ADVERTISE a damn Rocks charge.

The bar downstairs from the office charges 13 bucks for my drink. Rocks or not. I do love Bombay and tonic though.
holy crap! $13 for a drink? Of course, you are in the city where my daughter ordered a chicken breast sandwich and coke in a "casual" place and the tab was $21. ::)

Beside that, ice rocks can give you a big headache. For instance, if I drink a Bourbon with an ice rock, I get no headache... but if I drink 7 or 8 Bourbons each with an ice rock, tomorrow morning, I have a BIG headache: the 8 ice rocks are the culprit !! ...
First off Tiger, other than a bit of Danish blood, I am a Scot. (OK, American of Scottish descent). Second, I have always drank my pure single malt on ice. I know, dry is best, but I like mine cold.
I have never gotten a headache of hangover after drinking Scotch unless it was shit like Dewars or Johnny Walker, which I have learned not to drink.
