Some gas stations around these parts have raised the price of regular gas to $5.29 today.  A lot of stations are completely out of gas and there are long lines at the ones that have a supply.  They are limiting the quantity to $75 for debit, $100 for credit, and unlimited for cash as long as it is not a supply tank.

Governor Bob Riley on Friday afternoon declared a state of emergency for Alabama after he received new information from the U.S. Department of Energy that energy shortages will likely occur in the state due to Hurricane Ike.

Attorney General Troy King said that Alabama’s price gouging law was triggered and went into effect with the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency earlier this afternoon. General King has vowed to use the resources of his office to enforce it. With gas prices across Alabama being reported to have reached or exceeded five dollars per gallon in some cities and with hundreds of Alabamians calling the Attorney General’s Office to report rising prices, Attorney General King warned unscrupulous businesses that are seeking to profit illegally at the expense of Alabamians that these practices will not be tolerated.

Wow, first time ever that gas prices in the rest of the country are higher than here in the CA Bay Area.  I just filled up for $3.75 a gallon... I thought that was high, but I guess not.

ahh nothing like a deregulated oil industry. :D :D :D  same crap happened here in north carolina, i was able to fill up at 3.80 a gallon.

Yeah, I got notice one day before but refused to believe it.
We got gouged when hurricane Opel hit our house and generators were doubled and trippled in price.
Wasn't much we could do.

People that do this should be put in jail.

actually after fran went through raleigh that shit happened. people were selling bags of ice for 10 bux a pop. It caused new legislation here in NC, apparently that doesnt work for GAS.

Bush is a big into Deregulation so its partially his fault. Remember his buddy was KEN LAY.
