The popup adds are html files found in the folder: Program Files\AVG\AVG8\Notification\. Delete those files and the associated image/css files, or move them to another location.

In addition, to get rid of the dropdown ads from the AVG control panel, go to Program Files\AVG\AVG8\ and delete the following:

avgfree_us.mht
avgmwdef_us.mht
avgsbfree_us.mht
avgresf.dll
But, but they make me feel so warm and secure!!!

:D
Or go get Avira antivir and get better security...
AVG is good enough for me. I love the price. It stays out of the way for the most part. And I have my router locked down pretty well, I never download any e-mails from the net, I leave them on MSN's  and Yahoo's servers and they have the best anti virus going I assume.
Avira is the same price (free), uses even less resources, and provides better security. I don't switch packages without a reason.
I've used AVG since you recommended it a few years ago.  I'll have to check this one out.

I was about to upgrade to the latest version of AVG Free, and then I read this. Hmmm.

Not to sound dumb, but if you were going to try and convince someone to switch to Avira, what would you say? ;) ;D
Switch or we'll put your "boys" in a microwave?  :D
the old virus vault got filled wtih AVG....so I switched to Avast....much happier now.

;D ;D
LOL! :)

I'm just trying to find out what makes Avira better than AVG. I might just install the newer AVG for now, and switch later to Avira if I decide so.

I'm already familiar with AVG and like it, so I'm in no hurry to switch, unless there's some really awesome benefit to going with Avira.

I am also satisfied with AVG if it ain't broke I ain't fixing it. Got no complaints.
