Not sure if anyone needs a pair of headphones or not, but...

Try the Senn HD280, if you do.

I have the Grado sr80 and akg 240s. I travel for work and listen to a shit load of music in my hotel room after a hard day.

By far, at least for general listening, these things are great. They are flat with no eq and handle all aspects of the EQ wonderfully. I was just messing around in guitar center and decided to grab a pair for kicks. They get pretty good reviews. Been around forever.
Thanks!
I had those on my list, they get great reviews - none in stock to try - ended up with a set of KRK KNS8400.  I wanted some decent closed back cans I could use at work for casual listening and for recording / monitoring at night.  Only had 'em for a few weeks so no review yet.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD580 Precision that that my portable doesn't drive to their potential.  Incredible phones...
I've read about those too. Run your portable, mp3 player etc, through a small mixer. Listen to your music, portable, through the mixer headphone jack. You'll be surprised at the difference. It almost works as a amp, but very clean. I bought a small one to travel with at guitar center for 40 bucks. Alesis (sp) usb mixer.
you mean a regular mixer?  Or headphone amp?

The only problem is most cheap mixers have crappy headphone output circuits.  They would degrade the sound significantly.
p.s.  are you saying you like those better than the Grado SR 80?

I have both, amp and mixer.I'm referring to the mixer I mentioned in the earlier post.

I tried a $100 makie first, the guy said try the alesis. Do you think the headphone circuit on a Ipod is better? Or any little mp3 player? I haven't heard any better. I have 2 headphone amps and they don't sound any better. To me, I mean. The mixer is far better sounding than the headphone amp. Its actually very flat sounding, like a akg 240. Much less colored. Remember, I said general listening, like on a mp3 player or computer laptop or something.
I think the hd280's fit my listening style the best. ;D I travel for work every week and listen to a lot of music after work in a hotel room. I want good sounding shit when I do. ;D Yeah, I guess I do. Contrary to the reviews I've read, the HD 280's have that right amount bass I've been looking for. And, over all good sound. They handle eq effects better than any thing I've heard in the studio headphone type category.
I've been digging these for a while now:

Easy on the ears over time and very clear but you have to pump them (250 OHM) too.
I talked the guitar center into letting me take the dt 770's back and got the AKG 240s. Haven't tried the one's you mentioned. Each set, even in the same company, can be very different. My comparison, as you can tell a little bit, is in the $100 category.
I have used the akg 240 monitor (600 ohms) for a few years now.  I have liked those.  When I travel I have used the Etymotic ER 6i for a while and like them as well.

I, personally, can't stand phones in my ear. I've read good things about those though. I have a pair of shure se 210. Their very over priced. $150. Not sure what I'd get for an in ear on the go listen. I can't understand why people would by Bose headphones. I tried a pair of those and they seemed to be a very over hyped dj type headphone coloured out the ass. I guess bass is a sign of "good" to most folks.
I thin you are correct.  Most folks like more bass than I do. Car amps appear to support that perception.
