Clearly an official cover up for the Aliens, a consipracy that is even more evidence it is Alien's doing and that they have infiltrated the New Scientist.

I was taking the piss earlier,
That light that descends down to earth,
My first thought was it is light projection onto clouds - a light show.
i.e. a classic hoax.
But then this Russian defective missile explanation comes along - which doesn't explain it at all.
I am finding it more curious now
about the cause.
The hoax explanation is the only one that works - but why the weirdness of pulling the media and the Russian rocket story.
One explanation for the light to the ground is an Aurora Borealis effect - the Physics don't work with that it is lame,
Only the projection from the ground explanation works for me - anything else needs major explanation.
I've seen a similar result down in So. Cal. after they test launched a missle from Vandenberg Air Force Base. It looked REALLY cool! A newspaper article had a picture of the aftermath and mentioned what chemicals caused the different colors and how the "halo" was made by sunlight being reflected off the particles (the test shot happened in the early evening).
Wow, that one video was excellent! That has to be one of the coolest atmospheric effects I've ever seen - I can only wish I was there to see it in person...
One bit of trivia: The Aurora Borealis you see in the Northern hemisphere has a mirrored effect if seen at the exact same time in the Southern hemisphere. :)
Of course, this incident probably IS alien in nature. ;)
