The Watering Hole

Off to Joshua Tree National Park Sunday AM then staying in Twentynine Palms for the night then to San Elijo State Beach in Cardiff By The Sea California for a night camping on the ocean front. Time for my salt water fix. (Actually it is the wife who wants to go there), I could live without the humidity near the sea easily. I grew up on an Island out in the ocean in New Jersey so I should like it near the sea but I don't like the humidity after 12 years in the desert.

Even so, you have DEFINITELY been gettin' around over the last year or two!  Enjoy it!  :)

Thanks, I enjoy the drive through the desert a bunch. It will be 103 at Joshua Tree NP monyanna. But 103 is child's play to me after the 115* days here in the summer. I absolutely dislike camping these days unless I have a hard walled RV which I don't, It is tent city for us Monday night. The 420 will have to sooth my wounded spirit on the ocean front Monday evening   .

What a yawner that place is. It is huge. We came in on the south end up from I-10, not a thing to see except for the desert, and some exhibits talking about the history of a particular spot. I did stop and stand at the point where the Sonoran desert turns into the Mojave desert. That was of interest to me since I always wondered where that occurred. Now I know, in the middle reaches of the Joshua Tree National Park. We went out the top of the park into Twentynine Palms, where we got a motel and then went back down into the park at another spot and that is where the mildly interesting stuff turned out to be. All in all since I live in the desert, no stuff of any interest to me there except for Keys View, I got a chance to look at the San Andreas Fault from Keys View. Pretty neat.

After the Utah National Parks all the other parks are a little less colorful and little less spectacular, next one for us Yosemite NP. That is pretty spectacular I hear although probably not as colorful as the Utah Parks.

Did they force you to listen to U2 at the exhibit?  :D

You kind of have to get out into the desert and wander to really understand what's so cool about Joshua Tree.  If you drive through and look for sights, you're not going to find them.

Since I already live in the desert, there was nothing for me to actually see that was different from where I live. I am 2 miles from open desert up the Sun Valley Parkway and we ride our bikes out there all of the time. the desert scenery is in fact much better here than at Joshua Tree because we have Saguaro cactus, and there is nothing like that in Cali. Secondly we have a large Joshua Tree population up the road from Wickenberg about 40 miles from here. We have been there plenty of times on the way to Vegas, etc.

Don't get me wrong I really like the desert or I would not live here. And for those not familiar with the desert, Joshua Tree is a greet place to experience it. But a yawner for me, since I already live in the desert. I did get to seer the boundary between the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts however, that was interesting.

They don't have enough firepower to get that to happen, I absolutely do not like U-2's sound at all, although the guitar player is pretty interesting the rest of them are not my cup of tea, especially the singer. Yuk.

If they have electricity, you could always plug in a small window unit at the door of your tent. ;D ;D ;D

Well Hook, the tent part was on the ocean front, and the temp during the day was less than 80 and in the 60's at night. I stayed in a motel in the desert by Joshua Tree National Park, the AC unit worked well enough.

I did break my old tent when setting up, so I had to rush over to Big 5 Sporting Goods Store on Lomas Santa Fe Dr (I used to live in that town so I know my way around there pretty well) Anyways I got a new tent for $129 on sale and had it set up in time for relaxing around the campfire.
