I clicked "USA" on the welcome screen, and then it said "sorry, that bike can't be found."  The site should be smart enough to recognize that if you are linking directly to a bike, maybe you don't need to be in the correct country just to see it.
Sorry guys. It's this.....

The one in the shop that I wanted was this one but the 4 figure price tag begining with a 4 kinda put me off :o

The only parts on this thing that are not titanium or carbon fibre are the tyres, the seat cover, the disc rotors and pads and the handlebar grips  :o :o :o. (The forks are made from carbon fibre sliders over titanium tubes with all titanium internals/valvesetc. and cost £1250 to replace/buy!)

Oh, and the oil in the forks/brake lines.

If your one of those people who love/appreciate engineered parts etc. you could happily hang this on a wall and just look at it. It IS "art".

BTW Howie, thats £4,499! Read $6,338 at todays rate and a whopping $8501 and change at the "normal" exchange rate I.E. When the pound isn't through the floor value wise.

The difference is that Specialized are a US company. So, YOU should be able to pick this up for less than US$4000 while we pay more.....(given that GBP4499 = US$6338) ::) >:(.

One reason why I won't be buying an amp from the states at the moment (like I did with the Mesa).

Just not worth it ATM.
Damn!  I paid £500 for my bike 2 years ago, fuck paying £4,499 for one !!!...mind you, I know what you mean about really good engineering being a thing of beauty, it really can be something to be appreciated.

Imagine paying £4,499 just to get a sore ass  ;D

It would cost me even more since I'd have to pay someone else to ride it for me! ;) :D
For $4,300, give me a new $600 Giant or Diamondback, a PRS Swamp Ash, and a Budda Superdrive 18!  Crap, I'd still have enough left over for a 2x12 cab and a couple webers....  and all new Fulltone guitar and pedal cables.....   and still some left over...  LOL

Or buy a bike with a MOTOR on it...   :)

or better still a bike with 4 wheels  :)  and a motor

i cant see paying 3+k for a PRS especially if your a hobbyist.

those 4-6k bikes are for serious riders who race, not for just the casual Mtn Biker.
The prices on the high end Specialized bikes aren't much lower than that here... highest is around $8800 US.

But those are the ultimate, cream of the crop bikes... if you are buying that, you either have more money than you know what to do with, or you are a competitive racer.  Specialized models go down to a low of about $300, and they have lots of killer bikes in the $1k range.

Damn. Expensive ride, nice lookin', but ouch, steep price, hope its worth it! Health club = $15 a month...great results and sweet scenery.  ;)

I think you'll find that a nice full sized stair stepper would be more useful though.  At least you can hang your laundry on that!  ;) :D
Where's the 1200cc motor?
I think some of you have got the wrong end of the stick here.

I bought the silver version of the first bike for £600.

I would have bought the expensive one if I had the money (justified or not), but I don't have, and will probably never have that kind of mullah lying round.

I....Like most people here, would rather spend that kind of money on music stuff even though I love riding both motor AND people powered bikes.

I have to say that while I tend to keep fit through work (which IS very physical in my case), I do have a Concept 2 rowing machine at home which I use (or try to ::)) about three times a week and then get out on the bike another couple of mornings/evenings another couple of days just to work the beer off  ;) ;D.

At the age of 45, I'm only 12.5 stone (175lbs) and 6'1" so I'm not doing bad considering I drink WAY too much and smoked 30 a day until 6 weeks ago!!!

The only point I wanted to make about the "expensive" bike was that the engineering in the thing was beyond beauty. (For a sad f^*k like me anyway).
I can't imagine riding a bike that weighs 600 pounds!
Reviving...

Just bought myself a new (used) bike, a Santa Cruz Blur XC from '08, loaded, for $1500.

Best part is how much of this is made within 15 miles of my home!

Funny -  thing that struck me about that sketch is right at the end with Cleese alone - he starts out with an American accent but can't sustain it in  the rant and ends with what might be the prototype for his Basil Fawlty character.
