Jo was working all weekend facepainting at a big local event. LOTS of kids, captive audience, good money all round :).
She got home later than expected Saturday because of local floods due the heavy rain we had here. She also mentioned that while going through on of these floods, some cock-jockey came the other way and forced her up a small bank. Because of the water level, she could not see that the banking at the edge of the road ended very suddenly so the Jeep dropped back to level with a bit of a bang.
No harm done as far as she could tell and off she went Sunday. On her return, she says that the car is acting funny, pulling right under braking and a slight knocking noise from time to time. There I am, with a stinking cold, late last night trying to find out whats happened with a torch. Can't see anything so figure I'll take Becky to school this morning as both Jo and I have the day booked off to get some bits for the holidays sorted and get Becky a new coat then go have a pub lunch before she gets out of school.
The noise this morning from the Jeeps suspension tells me something is very wrong so as soon as I get home from the school run, it's up on the trolley jack and have a good look in daylight. One of the tie bars for the front anti-roll bar has ripped the ball joint apart. The knocking noise she heard was the tie rod being caught by the tyre and smashed against the axle. BOLLOCKS!!! >:(.
On the phone to the nearest dealer to find they'er normally order only and a 5 day wait :o. BUT....He's found a dealer with 2 in stock.......65 miles away ::). 130 miles and £155 in parts later (I figure I might as well change the plugs, oil and filters as I'm already going to get cold and dirty) and my day off is best part taken up.
F%^& IT!!!!
Still the car is now fixed, the (slightly overdue) service is done and looking at it from a different perspective, if I'd had the sevice and the repair done by Jeep, I'd now be just over £700 lighter instead of just £155. The difference in the quality of the service??? I don't get a flashy dealer stamp in the service book ::).
