Next door neighbours house got struck by lightning yesterday afternoon. It fucked all of his electronic equipment in his house AND fucked my rooter and the network card in my server ! All up and running again now.
No other damage though? Pretty lucky actually!

No, everything else is fine. It looks like it hit his sky TV dish. We were here at the time and there was an almighty bang the like of which I've never heard before, unbelievably loud and there were sparks flying everywhere. Lucky escapes all round !
Glad to hear no one was hurt. Lightening can be a shocker.

Funny you should say that "god" thing. My neighbour said he probably won't be able to claim on the insurance because it will be deemed an "act of god", so I told him just to say that he doesn't believe in god therefore how can it be an act of god ? ;D
God does have a mean "streak" in him. ;D
before we got our bigger camper, I sat in a "pop-up" camper in a bad storm one night and Amy and I saw lightning hit a tree about 15 feet from the camper. It broke the tree in half immediately and it glowed blue for about 3 seconds after the hit. Luckily the tree fell away from our camper!
I'll never forget the sound and picture of that tree glowing with that electricity. Pretty impressive.
Only time I ever had damage from it, it hit our Time Warner cable. Literally hit the cable wire coming from the street. Blew the tuner section out of my TV. The repairman said the surge came in through the cable, not the electric cord. I have a surge protector on that anyway, but he went outside and said it clearly hit the cable wire (which he had to call Time Warner to replace that as well). He said we were lucky in only got one TV (the big one at the time, of course!) because we had 4 hooked up to cable.
by the way, my son was sitting on the toilet at the time of the lighting strike. He said the bathroom was "alive" with sparks and it literally scared the crap out of him ;D
