The Watering Hole

Ok, I think I have my music gear all up and running FINALLY...  However, my PC is too lame to do too much and, with no money, it's going to stay that way for a while.

So, I'm coming up with alternative ways to make money until the startup gets more projects.

I remember getting some hints before about doing voice-overs, but can't remember from who!  (Tripper maybe?)

Anyway, here's the basic question:

When making a voice-over demo, what types of samples do you think should be on there and how long should each be?

I think I could do very well with books-on-tape as well as commercials.  Not even sure what the other categories are or what I do with the demo after I make it so any help is appreciated!

As for the signal chain, I will be using my Octava 319 into an Antares AVP-1 (for de-essing, etc.) and then into my Layla 24 and, finally, into SONAR 4 Producer.  I have access to all sorts of other dynamic processors (including a TC Helicon Voice-One if I want to be Barry White or one of the Chipmonks ;) ), but I'm also curious as to what you guys think would be beneficial.  A little compression maybe?

TIA!  :)
