The Watering Hole

I haven't said much about my dad since the initial report because there hasn't been much to say.  Chemo is beating him down badly.  He is VERY weak and a shell of his former self...
Anyway, he has complete the first wave of chemo so today they started tests to see how it's going and then go from there.  Today he had a cat scan.  When they went back out to the lobby, he was greeted by the guy who did it who immediately said "you need to go to your doctor immediately. I've already called him and he knows you are on your way."

His doctor is only a few miles away.  When he got there, his doctor took him in immediately.  He said that they saw a large blood clot in his lung.  He said it was very dangerous and they had to immediately get some special blood thinner medicine in him.  He had to go the hospital immediately and has to go back for the next 4 days for this special injection of blood thinner.

My mom asked how serious it was, and he said "very bad."  Dad told the doctor that Monday night he had complained to my mom that his leg was very numb, and they figured he had just slept on it wrong or it was just "asleep" from him being in his chair all day.  And that the next day his leg was fine.  The doctor said that the blood clot must had started in his leg, broke loose and made it to his lung.  Mom said, what if it would have gone past his lung.  Doctor said "It would have killed him instantly."  She said, well now that he's got this medication, is there any chance that could still happen.  He said "absolutely is for the next couple days or so."  Mom said "so if it breaks loose..."  he said "instant."   :(
im pulling for your Dad!!!
I didn't know your dad had problems  - sorry to hear it.
These crisis points are pretty scary but the odds are likely still in your dad's favour.

Doctors do cover their asses on risk as they see so many patients in similar situations
they will get hit repeatedly with claims against them if they don't clearly state the potential downside possibilities.

Sorry to hear that Howie. Always look for the positive in every situation, as it is there.
Hang in there meng.  I have a buddy who's malms is going through this right now.  It was really touch and go for a sec but she's on the mend now.   This was totally out of the blue and the family dropped everything and spent a few days in the hospital with her.  I wish yer pops a speedy recovery.
Yikes! Sorry to hear that.  Blood clots are very scary.  Chemo is a wonder, and saves many many more lives than it harms, but one of the things that sometimes happens is blood clots.
Keep your thoughts positive!  My Mom was rushed to emergency surgery where they removed a very cancerous tumor the size of a watermelon.  The doctor gave her a very slim chance of making it.  Afterwards she had the full chemo sessions.

That was over 11 years ago now.
Wish you and your family, especially your Dad, all the best Howie.

This is the kinda of stuff YOU beat off to?  Sick sick man!

You know what I think Howard P.
DreamTheaterRules — Sep 25, 2008 "instant."   :(

Well I wish the very best outcome for your dad. I hope he does well and recovers.

But at 66 years old I see this kind of thing in my retirement community frequently, and you can never predict what can occur.

But if worse comes to worse, it is better to go quick than linger in pain. (I hope neither of these will happen to your dad).

So my friend, hang in there and things may get better, but if it is instant that is not the worst way to go.

Both my parents went quick, my father had a bad headache, went to the hospital and passed in 3 or 4 hours, my mom took overnight and passed with all of my sisters at her side. When I gotta go I want it to be sudden.
thanks guys.  Much appreciated.
Sorry to hear this DTR. Chemo's rough, and some of the side effects/complications can be very rough, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry to hear about that Howie....my thoughts and prayers are headed your way.

As you know, both my parents went through cancer and they died two years apart.
You have to be prepared for good or bad news and any eventuality...which I know you are.
That's the good thing about being a Christian, you know that regardless of the outcome, your dad is in good hands.  :)

Hang in there and just spend time with him when you can.
Lot's of people go through chemo and live many more years.  :)

Randy
Joanne and I are sorry to hear about this Howie,
We will keep you and your family in our prayers.
