This will be a weird subject I'm sure. I have to go in some rough hoods at times and carry a gun at all times when in these places, and most other times as well.
Smith and Wesson came out with a very good self defense handgun thats brand new and very hard to find right now, thanks to Obama. I found one and its a damn good gun if anyone is in to that.
Its a M&P Smith&Wesson .40 Shield. Very small automatic. Great for conceal and carry. Can't wait to get to the range for a shooting session.
Check it on the net. Pretty cool. The Glock has new competitor.
This is what I use when I walk through bad neighborhoods. :D

I want a Smith and Wesson Governor http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/06/robert-farago/gun-review-smith-wesson-governor/ basically a handgun that shoots 410 shot shells and/or 45 long colt. 6 rounds, the first two, double O buck, the next 4, 45 Long Colt which is almost as powerful as a 44 magnum. The first two to clear out the riffraff, the next four for precision surgery.......
That is a pretty cool gun. You could use it to kill snakes and stuff if your in that type place. I bought the Shield for many reasons. 1st, it's very small and thin. Second, it's a automatic. If I decided at any time I didn't like the gun anymore, it would be very easy to get my money back by selling it. I actually considered a hammer-less .38 and almost bought one. What stopped me was the price. It was the same price as this gun I bought. Problem is, .38's are everywhere. I'd never get close to being able to sell it for what I paid for it. That would be my second choice and down the road I'll by one anyway. It's a very good choice for self defense as well.

;D ;D
I was going to get a AK 47 but it wouldn't fit in my front pocket. ;D
I have snake shot for my Hi Power and my 22's, but I do not fear snakes. I have walked up to diamondback rattle snakes on the trails out in the desert. All you have to do is stomp on the ground a little and they move off the trails after a nice little coil up and rattle. They cannot strike more than 3/4th of their body length so it is easy to stay out of harms way. I really do not want to kill anything, but we have mountain lions and coyotes in the White Tank Mountain Regional Park where we hike every Sunday, so I carry my Hi Power in a belly pack. Better to have the gun and not need it than need it and not have it.
By the way I looked at that gun you just bought and it looks real nice and capable. A worthy item to have.... The Governor would be better to carry in the wild as the hi power is only 9 MM so it is not a big cat stopper. I may try to trade my Smith and Wesson Model 41 22 target pistol for the Governor.
"Thanks to Obama?"
You can't even name a new gun regulation Obama has passed, because there haven't been any.
Idiotic.
You know who is thanking Obama? Smith&Wesson, because having a "liberal" president and the rise of the tepid party have created more business for panicked gun nuts than anything else could have. Those guys have sold more guns than ever in history, I'd presume, in the last 5 years.

That's kinda the point, Charger. Obama is for gun control measures. He is a huge part of this debate over gun control.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/28/us-usa-obama-agenda-idUSBRE92R11J20130328
By the way, I don't think Obama has passed any legislation, has he? :D That's really not funny, if you think about it.
Every time this debate comes up this same thing happens. People go ape shit and start buying guns. Even people that don't actually own guns, are now buying guns.
I own a gun, but I am for every measure possible to be taken, to prevent people from getting guns that shouldn't. I am for anything regulating the magazines. And, I don't think any American should be allowed to purchase AK47's. Thats stupid. An American armed with a AK47 or any other crazy shit like that is like Iran having nukes. Just as scary, at least.
I think the damage is done. Might as well do something at this point. Everytime this debate comes up, more people get guns and some get more guns. Do it now and get it over with. Then the people that went ape shit thinking the government would not allow guns period, or whatever went through their diseased head, would see that's not the intention of anyone. JMO.
I am actually a pretty avid target shooter but haven't been doing much of it lately. I had the Shield in a 9mm and agree it was a great little gun, I sold it to buy some guitar gear when I started transitioning from acoustic to electric and I have since regretted getting rid of it. I don't carry very often so it seemed expendable at the time but there have been a few instances since then where I would have liked to have it. Enjoy your new purchase and as always be safe.
You can't even get ammo here in Arizona these days since the November election and the school shooting and resulting debate. I tried to get some 9MM hollow points at both Cabellas and Wal Mart. and they sell out the day the stuff is shipped in. My ammo is almost 26 years old. I have a thousand rounds of 9MM and six thousand rounds of 22 long rifle, and that is old for ammo Fortunately it has always been stored in climate controlled circumstances, and has been in my climate controlled shed and house here in Arizona for 15 of those 26 years or so. Still I walk out in the desert mountains and we have coyotes, and mountain lions out there and I want some protection so I went out in the desert and fired off a few rounds to see if it still worked and it does, but still I want some new ammo because it has to be more potent, and to kill or wound a big mountain lion, you need high velocity with a small 9MM round.
I am a life member of the NRA, and I do not advocate any form of gun control for the healthy US citizen, but I do think that once anyone has been diagnosed with psychological problems, or put on a terrorist watch list, that person should go on a database accessible to gun shops, so they cannot get any firearms from a reputable dealer. However that will not stop the problem, but it might slow it down a little.....
From what I keep hearing news-wise, the number of users is on the decline, but the number of gun sales on the rise. The same people keep buying more and more guns. I dunno that Obambam is to blame, these peeps seem to look for any excuse to buy more!!! It's real scary when they even talk about banning insane weapons for the public or trying to make sure that criminals and whack jobs can't get guns, so scary that peeps gotta buy, buy ,buy everything!!!! Shit why not blame Obama, I'm sure he can snap his fingers make it all wonderful, like we didn't make our world bones on the creation and selling of massive amounts of boom boom makers to ourselves and the planet!!! "Obama's gunna make guns illegal!!!! I need to buy now!!!!" <-----Runs around screaming with head cut off and fist full of dollarz... Oh wait, just another speculation con...
Seruss tho, the insanely full of shit twisting of the NRA was a treat to watch, as per the usual...
Binge, he's the boss. You should blame him for that in the same way people blame Bush for the economic collapse.
DBM, why should anyone need a gun with a 30 round clip? Why should that be allowed? Id you need more than 3 shots to defend yourself, the game is over, and the game is gone. A little duck hunting, shotgun shit thrown at ya.
People should realize by now that if you armed every citizen in the U.S. they would be no match for our military. You really can't protect yourself from our government right now, downside to being a super power, so whats the point of owning anything over a .38 for self defense, 30-30 for hunting? That would include shotguns. No need for anything else. It's way to dangerous to arm untrained folk with military grade weapons. I would prove that by offering evidence in the fact that it's to dangerous to arm anyone with a gun with the number of deaths by guns yearly.
This is pretty much a no brainer decision. But, our government just can't pull that off with the available technology they have.

Word. Carry all the time, or none of the time. It's the only black and white decision needed to be made on earth.
I should blame that goof for collectors and speculators buying up all the "good shit" manufacturers can pump out?

Uhh... you've got an incredibly remote chance of a mountain lion attacking you. And a coyote? I'd say the chance of either is about as close to 0 as it gets. Look up attacks by these animals and you'll see you have a far greater chance of being killed by, say, a stampeding elephant, or a bee, or lightning.
Hookbender, would it surprise you to learn that your positions on gun control are exactly the same as mine?

But yeah, I guess it does surprise me a bit. Especially when YOU say, "exactly the same".

Better to go armed and not need the gun, than need it and not have it with me. I don't know about where you live but mountain lions do attack people in the mountains in Cali Nevada, Utah, Oregon further north up and in Arizona. Oh yes the attacks are rare but they do happen, one in Southern California not too long ago as I seem to recall.
I am not an advocate of killing anything without extreme need. Killer bees are sure a danger around here, they attack people from time to time in some of the wilderness parks around here, and even is some developments too.
My opinion on gun control is easy, don't point it at anything you don't want to shoot. And hold it with both hands to steady your aim.
Ain't America wonderful? Where we can all have an opinion, and it does not matter what the popular opinion is.
Since 2000, there have been three people killed by mountain lions, total. In 2013 alone, 7 people have been killed by lightning so far. A rubber hat and rubber shoes would be far more effective at saving your life than a gun.
Living in a nation where no-one is allowed to own or carry a gun other than farmers on their own land etc, I find it really puzzling as to why you would a) want a gun, b) carry a gun around with you everywhere. Are things really that bad in the States that you have to carry a gun with you at all times in order to feel safe ?.... I suspect not.
We have an element of low-class idiots society who think they can do what they want because they have a gun. 99% probably got their weapons illegally and, now that they are out there, the chances of recovering these weapons is pretty slim.
Unfortunately, most of these same mentally-challenged wastes of flesh prefer unarmed targets and some are required to kill someone as part of their gang initiation (fortunately they tend to kill each other most of the time - but not always). The bad joke of laughing at someone who brought a knife to a gunfight applies here.
I, personally, have only ever owned one gun (a Ruger .22 target pistol - the nice chrome one with a wooden grip and a scope) but I sold it some years back. I've had a gun pointed at me more than once - NOT a fun experience (Los Angeles CA, Santa Ana CA and East Berlin Germany). That said, I prefer to stay foolishly optimistic that nothing will happen to me if I try to stay in safer areas.
Just out of curiousity, what would you do if some group of gang members moved into your neighborhood and they all had guns?

Ha, that would be a real treat. I live in a gated community with 24 hour security, cameras all over the place, no one can get in here past the guard shack that does not have authorization. However as a back up I am armed and I have lots of ammo......
If some criminal did break into my house I would put 2 in the center mass, and one in the head, no questions no hesitation. Decision is already made. Here in Arizona we have a "castle law" If someone breaks in to a home here, the homeowner can do whatever he has to to defend his "castle". We also have the right to carry concealed here if you are a resident. I do carry my pistol when we go out hiking in the White Tank Mountain Regional Park, not only to defend against wildlife, but there are all kinds of humans out there, some of them could possibly be criminals. Because of those possibilities I carry in a belly pack, however unlikely an attack may be.
This is not California where guns are not welcome, and shooting someone even in your own home is a serious matter. This is Arizona almost like the wild west of old. When I come to California I leave my guns here at home, because I do respect the laws of the land wherever I am, even the traffic laws. However I do carry a knife and a pick handle right next to me in my car. And I have to say that in my entire life I have never been threatened by anyone while on the road. But as a precaution I do go carry some protection from here to there wherever I go. And then as a last resort my Wing Chun training will also be of some value. I have been across America from Coast To Coast at least 15 times each way in the past, and up and down the East and West Coasts countless times. I have probably driven a million miles or so around America, and I have never been threatened by anyone, but still the possibility exists, and because I can see that the possibility exists, I try and have a response for it.
Now all that said, I do meditate every day for a full hour. I try in every way to be a decent citizen and a good neighbor, following the laws of the land in almost every instance. And if everyone else thought like I do there would be no need for firearms. But I am wise enough to know that is not the case. So I am prepared for the worst and hope for the best.

Oh by the way, we have had several instances of rabid coyotes out here in Arizona, and they do sometimes threaten people. The coyotes are also here in my community right inside the development in the golf course, and in the green areas, many of them actually. They are as relaxed as can be, and do not fear men and women in here, they mosey around all of the time looking for the many many rabbits and quail that run around here. I guess that you are against gun ownership. Well no matter what
anyone says, I am for responsible citizen gun ownership, that is until the day there is no criminal activity on the daily news. Not because I live in fear, but because I like to be ready for any eventuality I can foresee. It does not matter to me what anyone else's opinion is on this matter.....

It's intertwined with the concept of "freedom" here. Freedom to shoot as well as freedom to be shot. Freedom to make the most profit trumps all, of course...

There are spots in the US (and every large city worldwide) where people would kill you for what you have in your pockets, and go out and celebrate the windfall. I like to own a gun or three for self defense and for safety.
I do not need to feel safe, I am already safe. I want to stay that way. It is not paranoia actually because I am not afraid myself, but I am cautious, because I know what is out there to some small degree, and they are waiting to prey on the innocent. I see that stuff on the news every night.
And by the way if those Brit ladies back in the last century had a nice pocket pistol, Jack The Ripper, would only have been Jack the creep who got his ass shot up in the ghetto of London (or wherever it was) on his first attempt to murder.
We live in a Nation that a) Has to many criminals with guns. b) has to many untrained gun owners who are irresponsible. Therefore citizens have the right to protect themselves at all times here. I think thats good. But, I don't think a AK47 is needed to do that, or anything else for that matter. I would prefer their were no guns so I wouldn't have to deal with the responsibility of carrying mine everywhere I go, almost. But, that ain't gonna happen.
I'm 47 and have only been shot once, odds aren't that bad I guess.
There are some idiot cowboys that wave their guns around and play with them like they were toys.
In fact I have a neighbor down the street a retired engineer from Boeing who has a shitload of guns. One day I went into his house and he pulled out this case with four of the most beautiful M 1911 clones in 45 ACP, 9 MM, and 10 mm, all of them loaded and he handed each one of them to me loaded. Now that is irresponsible. If I show anyone my guns, they are unloaded with the magazines out, & the slide locked back so you can see into the chamber and see there is nothing in it.
The guy next door to the retired engineer is a retired California Highway Patrolman, and when he showed me his guns. He brought them out one at a time, with the magazines out the slide pulled back and the chamber empty. I feel a lot safer with the retired cop than I do with the retired engineer.

Even when I drink, or whatever, I put my gun in a certain place on a shelf. And, I don't touch it. It's my rule. I don't break it. If you hand a gun to someone, you need to tell them it's loaded, regardless. They should be treated with that respect. They were made to basically kill animals or humans with. They are dangerous. One shouldn't take the responsibility lightly. Not that you are!!
I differ with you on this point, a little. I'm sure he knows you like guns and are use to handling them. In that case, you should know, rule #1 is treat every gun as if it were loaded at all times, period. Thats basic stuff. I give him credit. In that case while he unload the gun, an accident could happen then as easily as handing a loaded gun to a person he feels knows about guns. If he handed a loaded gun to a 16 year old who just put away 3 beer and never touched a gun, well, I'd see your point.

Just had a report of a felony assault somewhere nearby around noon yesterday, the guy supposedly ran into our community (or the assault was in our community) with the cops in hot pursuit. They never caught the guy, supposedly a Mexican man bald with tattoos and a beard wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. Hi Power right next to my mousing hand as I type. No sign of him so far, he probably beat it outta here after dark. We do have security here 24-7 but it ain't air tight. This is why I have firearms, not because I want to use them, but if I do need them I have them around.

Look, I've been here since 2008, I checked, and this is the only time Charger and I have ever agreed on anything. This is a historical moment, don't piss on it.
;D
While not involved in the gun discussion, I had to jump in and give a big THUMBS UP for this historic moment. Now if we could just get Kev to agree with anyone on anything.... ;D ;D
Also, DTR, Hookender and I both voted for Obama in 2008. But I wasn't going to bring that up because Obama makes Hookbender cry now.
Ya had ta fuck it up didn't ya! ;D
Yeah, Obama seems to conservative, even for my taste. ;)
I move that we establish a no arguing day in honor Charger and myself agreeing on 2 issues. All those in favor, say I. ;D
Aye!!!
(...holds back argument about it being three things...)
