Thoughts on this one?  Press or Japan's silence?

S'not looking good.   Cement & Boron anyone?

I sure hope the companies that run reactors here aren't nickel and diming building and maintenance etc.   HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Oh, and have a disaster/evacuation plan as well as insurance or other requirement which could cover a meltdown... bet they have a BP style of contingency plan.
It certainly looks like thinking has taken a vacation.  I feel sorry for the local population who probably have been caught in the minimization.
Firefighters and plant workers aren't taking any holiday tho, poor saps... at least they'll be remembered as heroes.
Here's an interesting tidbit for ya.  How many reactors have you ever heard of that have been entombed in concrete besides Chernobyl?

Well, at least one of the "experimental" military ones in Alaska has!  I was talking with one of our customers who happens to be the President of a power company in Alaska and he told me how he lives about eight miles away from one (called SM-1A).  He sent me a picture of the entombment warning.  Although there's some information available from Google, there's a good bit of stuff that isn't meant to come out like the issues they had and why the facility needed work and repairs in the 90's.  Of course, this was on the same base (Fort Greely) that has 100+ rockets filled with Sarin gas, Mustard gas and VX nerve agent fall into Blueberry Lake because they forgot to move them before the ice thawed...  Loverly, eh?

Some of the rest of the story includes how Oppenheimer (after being smacked around and labeled a Communist by McCarthy) was given a medal by President Johnson for finding a use for the depleted Uranium and Plutonium from the reactor (basically armor and amunition).
Stay away from the DU missile aftermath.  Chase, you listening?
Japan has asked for international nuke help.  We're sending them the largest cement truck a la Chernobyl.   LET THE COVERUP BEGIN!!!
