The Watering Hole

To make a long story short, the company I had interest in, my current job, is selling to another company in about 2 or 3 months. So, I have to find a job quick.

What a horrible time to look for a job. All my experience is in sales. This is not a good time to sell anything. On top of that, my wife and I are having our second, and last, child in October.

I haven't changed jobs in years. This should be interesting. Oh the drama. ;D

Well Craig....I guess I need to take my own advice right? ;D

My plan is to get my home on the market as quickly as possible. I just hope I can get lucky and sell it pretty quick. If I can sell the house, at least I won't be limited to shitty Alabama when I start looking for a job.

I'm trying to look at this as a positive thing as, depending on my house selling, I can make a major move due North. To civilization, as Charger calls it.  ;D

This should be a nice challange.

It's kinda weird. I'm worried some, of course, but in a way, excited at the chance to change things up a bit. Is that stupid?

Nothing wrong with that excitement.  You've got lots to see and you're not dead yet.  There are many places in the country where growth is still happening. Job boards, connections, craigslist, etc. all can give you leads not just to where to get a job but what kinds of people and communities are in certain areas.

I've got a interview with the owner at 10:30 in the morning. I'm just not sure I want to do the same thing. This would be a good time to change things up a bit. I'm gonna see what he has to offer and go from there.

Did well with the investment. It's not enough to simply quit work for any length of time. Not for me, anyway. I look to have another job within the next month or two at most.

Can't make the get together Charger. :( I put my home on the market this week and I have to stay pretty mobile in case I get a call for an interview or something. Unfortunately, I can't play right now. Pretty much because I really couldn't enjoy myself. I guess reality of my situation is setting in a bit. :)

Has anyone ever taken a job from the company buying your company? What was your experience? Is it out of line to ask for some type of contract for working so many years?

The reason I ask is this. I know the guy wants to hire me to help transfer accounts. May want me on a permanent basis. Not real sure.

Is there a risk, big or small, of him hiring me, transfering the accounts, then letting me go? I'm sure there is, to a degree. I'm gonna be looking hard for any sign of that during our conversation.

Any advice?

Looks like I scored a job. Actually making more money than I use to. Not a lot more, but more. At least I know I have a job as I look at other possibilities.

The interview was pretty serious until....

He ask me what it would take to hire me. Money wise. I thought for a minute....he ask what I made now. I said $300K, but I'd be willing to take a little less to start off with. He almost fell out of his chair he was laughing so hard. Good ice breaker. I think we both needed that at the time. ;D
