Woke up yesterday to a leak in my hot water tank. The water got all under my laminate floor in a 15 foot radius, & had to rip up the floor and get Servepro out to clean up the water damage. He also ripped out the toe kicks in my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The insurance adjuster will be out here at noon to look around and try and low ball me I guess. Plumber sort of fixed the tank, the leak was in the cold water inlet tubing. He has to come back today and put in some other tubing that needs updating and fix the weeping in what he did yesterday.
There are four huge fans running in the kitchen and bathroom, along with a huge dehumidifier. A fan under the house in a crawl space and a fan stuck in the hot water tank enclosure.
Are we having fun yet?
we had some damage from wind over the years, mainly too our roof, but other than that, in the 20 years we've owned our home every time we've had damage to repair its been water damage. Every time a water line breaks or leaks in the house, it does damage. :(
This is my second water damage only the first time I did not think of my insurance coverage. Last time it was only the water filter and we caught it in time to do most of the work ourselves...
In a condo I used to own our water heaters were actually outside in a closet of the back porch. One day I came home to see a big water spot on the ceiling of my living room above my big screen and hurried to move all my electronics. Turns out the upstairs neighbor's water heater had gone. What we didn't know then was that most of the water had gotten into my water heater area and behind the walls so when the Association finally got around to checking things I had mold. It took one year of hell to get all of that straightened out (and two Mexicans dressed up like spacemen - lol!). Here's what the corner of my living room looked like:

The insurance adjuster is outside as I type this estimating the damage, and writing the first of several checks.
Servpro (water cleanup) is done with us, the fans are gone, we can sleep with the bedroom door open, I am cleaning while the wifey is working so she can come home to a decent looking but still torn up (sort of) house. Yes.............
So not exactly like their slogan, eh? ;)
