Some singers are stupid hard to replace. They have 'their sound', and in a large part make a band.

We all know the incredible story of Arnel Pineda, singing for Journey. Stupid good pipes, and sounds scarily like Mr. Perry. He is my personal fav of any replacement singer...ever. Kills the vocals, and has really good stage presence. Link for reference:

But there are a few others that don't completely suck vocally. There is Tommy DeCarlo singing for Boston. Brad Delp is not an easy replacement. Tommy sings really well. Could use a wardrobe overhaul and some stage presence lessons, but he carries the tunes pretty damned good. I really enjoyed watching this concert. Linky if you haven't seen/heard him:

Any other singers worthy of note?
Our own August Zadra makes a damn good Tommy Shaw replacement!  (Which is why he's been playing with Dennis DeYoung now for a few years. :) )

To a large percentage of the paying public, the front man especially the singer is the only important thing in a band truthfully.

As a musician the most important folks to me are the sidemen, the engine of the band is the drummer, the transmission of the band is the bass player without those two the band don't go really. Whenever I played in a band, I always did much better if those guys were real good at what they did.

On top of what they did I could lay down my best licks, inspired way more than anything that I could come up with, with my machines, or with a bad rhythm section. Great players are inspiring, and always pushed me into other musical realms.
I think I could replace anyone after 9 beer.  ;D
