The company i use to work for had approximately 35 CAD designers when I left in 2006. Today there are 4!!!!!! Im so glad I made the decision to stay home with my girls.

Same here in the UK with building companies. Last year we worked with a building Co. on a new project for a doctors surgery. We were contracted (by the doctors, not the main builder) to A/C the building. At that time, the builder had 6 large projects on the go and employed 54 full time staff and about 10-15 subcontractors across all projects.
I met Chris (second in command to the whole company) Friday at the surgery to sort out a minor control problem, only to find out that the total staff now numbers 3 permanant and 2 subbies because 4 of the 5 other projects they had have been put on hold :o.
Thankfully, I work for a family run company who only employ 8 staff in total and have just about enough repeat (service and maintenance) work to see us through as long as all this doesn't go on for too long.
Should the shit REALLY hit the fan, first in/last out will be the order of the day so 5 other engineers will have to go before I start to panic. Besides, my experience and chosen skillset will see me get first choice of any vacancies that DO come up should it all go tits-up. I've been 'head-hunted' at least twice a year for the last 4 years with offers of better money etc....
I just hope it never gets that bad because I really like all my fellow workers on every level and we are a good team.
