Word is just getting out that Les Paul died today at 94...  :(

Unlike some, he did have a pretty long and fulfilling life though!
Yeah, just saw this. Have you ever seen some of real old stuff? AWESOME!!

Yeah he was a great. I was listening to him as Les Paul and Mary Ford back in the real old days late 40's early 50's. Later on he resurfaced as a jazz player. Pretty good at it too.

New Jersey was his home. He pioneered the multi track tape machine.

Sad, but 94, whew, he had a good run.

I agree on his playing, saw a special on country music of all things (I believe, it could've also been about early, multi track recording history which I guess he was also a part of as well) and they had a segment on him and his wife, pretty good playing footage from his youth, dude was a VERY good/clean picker! RIP, LP.

EDIT: oops, didn't see DBM already mentioning the mutli track stuff, sorry.
inventing the solid body guitar and multi-track recording would be a decent legacy, I suppose!
They might even name a guitar after you... :D

I haven't heard that anywhere on the news over here....a great guitarist to be sure.
Les Paul was shredding before the term was invented.
He was still playing live at 92!
I saw a film clip of him at the jazz club in NY where he played once a week, he was complaining loudly about the feedback in the PA, after a couple of minutes he sheepishly apologised, and admitted that it was his hearing aid making the noise  ;D

Les Paul playing live last year.
Just heard it on the news.

Dunno what to say about him as a player as I haven't heard enough  - but a guaranteed legendary figure in the history of guitar.
I played my Les Paul for the jam tonight in Les's honor... loads of fun, especially when you crank up the gain...

+1!
I posted this over at ION and thought I'd add it here too.  I just love the "ego moment" at the end ("What's your name??"  "It's on your guitar."  8-) )

Watch the whole thing - it's really funny.
