My wife got a new Samsung with Android and the bastardo seems to suck the battery dry after a couple uses.
Probably a bad battery, but wondered what your experiences were.
sorry no dice here. iPhone 4 user. NOOOOOO battery issues. Bitch goes all day and all night like a Thai hooker.
Amy just got a new Samsung Fascinate Droid phone. It lasts all day plus, easily. We just got back from Red River Gorge and one day we had the GPS on all day while we hiked, and surf for several hours that night, and then she left it on all night and still had batter then next morning.

Sure that wasn't from the pancakes for breakfast? ;) :D
Which one did you get?
I have the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, and at first the battery life was dismal....maybe 15-18 hours.
Then I figured out how the phone works....
I would strongly recommend the following apps for your phones, all free of course from the market:
- BatDroid
- battery power management
- will extend the life of your battery
- Power Control (Android Widget)
- widget for your desktop to turn on\off various controls
It's an Acclaim and we acquired two HTC Desires (for the kids.) Cool tech.
Thx for the replies.
Dook - I will look into those apps. Thanks a bunch. I had read about turning off 3G data and setting email check frequency and had mentioned screen brightness to her, but she wasn't having any of it if it was the least bit inconvenient. The power and data widgets should alleviate that.
Didn't think about virus scanners either.
Appreciate the help.
As soon as we get our first major order (possibly as soon as next week) I will be updating my five year-old cell to a smart-phone (needless to say I'll get a "new every two" year discount too).
The two I'm looking at now are the HTC Incredible (my business partner just got one so I get to check it out) or the Droid X. He didn't like the Droid X because it was too large for him (he's about the size of a hobbit - hehe), but I think I might prefer the larger size.
Unfortunately, the reviews tend to indicate that both are sucky on battery life...
Oh well!
Most smartphones are sucky on battery life. 3G is what kills it. If I know I'm going to go through an extended period where I am not going to use 3G data, I turn off the 3G hardware on my iPhone 3GS and my battery life through the day is a lot better.
I still have a silly old cell phone, no droid no iphone etc. My battery lasts a week and a half without a charge if I don't talk on it too much, and three full days of heavy use. I don't even want a smart phone. Don't need it.
all week? wow, that thing must have some big batteries in it!
Nope the phone is the key it is very efficient
I have an HTC hero. I agree with Dooks recommendations. I love my phone once I learned how to optimize everything. Another great source is Android Central. I have since rooted my phone and has been very happy with the results. I will be upgrading to an EVO or a Samsung Epic very soon. I opted for the unlimited pacakage so I dont really have to worry about data usage. Comes in handy when using Pandora or something like it.

Remember when the trend was towards tiny phones? Now they're huge again, with these big crisp displays...
Putting a futurist hat on it is an aberation - it will go back to tiny.
Display tech will move away from the legacy old fashioned screen thing to optical rendering direct into the eyes.
Will require much lower power and be massively better quality - watch a movie on a watch sized device in big screen and 3D.
The UI side of the equation is the trickier bit - typing in mid air or on a projection is not a good look, neither is talking to mid air.
so social issues with that.
So maybe that will represent the minimal size constraint.
The current iphone will seem quaintly rediculous in a decade.

A decade??! Heck, they're almost vintage now! Gotta buy something new RIGHT NOW! At least that's what manufacturers want you to think. :D
(As I sit here next to my almost six year-old cell phone... ::) )

Thanks Fender. But how the fuck do you know how I perform? ;D ;D ;D
