So I have a plasma TV that we've had for 7 years. Never had an issue with it. Lately, we've noticed a weird thing in the middle of the screen that when certain colors dominate that area you get a bleed of a different color. Doesn't happen all the time. but it's enough to be annoying.
So we got a new 60 inch Samsung Plasma. Jesus it's huge. But of course, now all the shit wouldn't hook up the same way. So I had to turn around and get a new sound system today so that everything could plug into one box and I didn't have to have 50 remotes.
Been an expensive past 24 hours. But we rockin' like a boss now!
My little man wanted the old TV. It's perfect for gaming. He's rocking a 42 inch plasma. His mother put the foot down on the old surround sound and won't let him have it. So that damn thing is just sitting in a box. He had this tiny little LCD TV. Lucky little bastard. never got cool stuff like that from my old man! HAHAHAHAHa Of course the daughter is stuck with a little TV. She's a bit jealous.
Heh, I did exactly the same thing last month. Our LCD TV developed a thick line across the middle of the screen so I went out and bought a samsung 50 inch 3D smart TV. Excellent piece of equipment except that it didn't have any RCA audio outputs to plug into my sound system, so I had to buy a new sound system. I bought a samsung soundbar with subwoofer....amazing sound quality. The TV now connects to the soundbar via SPDIF optical cable but I can also connect to it from all my other stuff using blue tooth, usb, line-in, HDMI cable etc etc.
Spent nearly £2,000 ($3,160 ish) on the new setup but worth every penny.
However, put my old TV in the bin and gave the old sound system to Oliver !
Congrats on the new gear, FB. Your kid prolly has a better setup than lots of folks have for their main room! It's nice to be able to upgrade home theater gear and move the replaced pieces to another room...my bedroom is now a full 7.1 'mini theater' sporting all quality stuff as well because just last week did I finally break down and add the final piece (receiver/amp) with a little slice of my return. We actually enjoy watching movies more in there now so far vs the family room despite the display being half the size! COMFORT FTW! ;)

I tried to get the wife to let me put the old sound system in the bedroom. That mixed with the Tempurpedic, I think she thought we may never leave the bedroom again. I didn't understand her concern! HAHAHAHA

I looked at those sound bars. Didn't see one that allowed the options I wanted. Didn't look at them too hard though. I gues I'm still a bit old school with the idea of having speakers all over the place! HAHAA
My Dad gave me one of the Sony sound bars for Christmas. I didn't report the other day because I hadn't really used it. I brought it home, hooked it up Optical, to My main TV, but I just hadn't watched any movies, so I hadn't really tried it out. I had never used optical, but very simple hookup.
Me and the wife watched a couple of movies last night, and I have to say, that I am totally floored by the sound from that system. I would look into those FB. The other cool thing is the space saved. I haven't tried my stereo receiver through it yet, but I'm guessing excellent sound.
The Dolby sound from the movies was excellent. My Step Mom had scored them on Black Friday. Gave themselves one, me one and my little Bro one. Good Stuff!
