Alright.....so the other day I have my daughters class and a couple of her classmates anounce to me that the have been saved and baptized.  I of course reply to the "Mr. A I got saved." With a "From what?  Was a dog chasing you?"

At any rate, my daughter heard these things and shot me this look like, "WTF are these people talking about?"  We of course are Atheist at my house.....so these terms aren't used much.

Needless to say I couldn't talk to my daughter in front of the class and decided I would wait till we got home to discuss.

So naturally I had to tell her a bit about what it means to be saved and what it is you are being saved from.  This led to a discussion of Adam and Eve....Apples and a serpent.  After I got finished with the story she said....but that's a fiction story.  I said, "What makes you say that?"

"It's simple Dad....snakes don't talk and apples don't make you know more stuff."

After a bit of laughter....she then asked, "Why do people believe that story if it's fiction?"

I love my daughter.  Didn't take her any time to figure out what took me half a lifetime to figure out.
That's really good. Funny, I am an athiest, my wife is a believer. I intentionally have never told my son not to believe,  I thought it only fair for him to mkake up his own mind and he did that funnily enough when he was 8. He is a confirmed athiest and is now 12. It is difficult to understand why anyone would believe such nonsense, however as my wife is a believer we never dscuss this at home as it is a sure way to start a fight so there's no point.

Hooray for the athiests!

edit: just changed "kake up his own mind" to "make up his own mind"  - originally typed on iphone hence the erros !

If you're paying attention there Howie you should notice that religion has nothing to do with it!  ;)

My oldest has actually been to church on many occasions.  I didn't want to indoctrinate her one way or the other.  So it's been up to her.  My wife has recently changed from Agnostic to Atheist.  But I remember the days when we could get in a BIG fight over religion.  Now we are finally on the same team! hehehe

Howie.....suck it.  hehehehe

Funny how the typo  is so "apt" though :)

Talking as the kind of atheist who can't logically be anything other than an agnostic and on occasion feels that it is entirely possible that something with a mysterious meaning is behind all this "existence" and "reality" stuff.

The only thing I can really dismiss out of hand as delusional is religion.
That myriad of man made ritual and beliefs that like to masquerade as not only true - but to be the absolute and only truth to varying degrees of insanity.

Literally  thousands of varieties of absolute truth.
Heinz has only 57 varieties of soup.

Simple amigo, you did not fill her head with myth, as if it were the only option. Parenting means a lot. You done good amigo, except for the Athiest part (in my opinion). Not believing is one thing, being so absolutely sure one way or another, is as weird to me as those who are absolutely positive of their religious beliefs. One thing I learned in this life is never but never be absolutely positive about anything, because time has taught me that everything is mutable. Nothing has stayed the same over time, everything changes. Anyways that is my $.02

But the best part is; you did not junk up the kids head with myth. That in my estimation is a smart parent.
