I really think being able to read music is important.
I was in "the" band in high school and they taught us to read and write, actually, music before we started fucking around with the actual instruments. that was instilled in my head and 1 huge reason I can't play a guitar worth a damn today. I really don't understand what the fuck I'm doing no matter how many people try to tell me. Either that, or what the people are telling me is shit. ;D I just can't see myself trying to read guitar music. Not sure I would understand that either. ;D Never seen that done by any blues player.
