The Watering Hole

A good time was had by all.  My meal clock is COMPLETELY out of whack  (Dinner Friday night was at 5:00 A.M. Saturday morning and then we didn't eat again til 10:00 that night... but I digress).

The acoustic jam Saturday night at Matts house  yielded some of the most offensive lyrics yet.  ;D  

Also of note, Charger made Matt bring a ball glove, so he could "play catch" with me during some down time.  We didn't get too, but the gesture of Charger wanting to throw some baseball with me was actually pretty cool.  He was probably going to break out the 90 MPH fastball on me, but then decided not to embarrass me.  

I received the "Ice Pick Tone Award" for the fourth year running.  It was nice to be selected again.  

Oh, and I forgot my mixer, and my Brown Sound In A  Box II which everyone wanted to check out.  

I missed out on the first nights stories, so I didn't get most of the jokes, although Sarah Roblinski is a name I'll never forget.

well, they rated the guitarists.  There were only 6 there, so I finished #7.   :'(

Here's the number one maxim of this year's BertCaveGuitarSpectacularooza:
Shit will go wrong, and how you deal with it is up to you.  We could have easily lost our shit when Howie forgot the mixer, or when we couldn't get the Digi hardware working on any box, or when we were freaking out trying to track down Bon, who we thought was on the way, or when we couldn't find a friggin' power strip to save our lives, or when we realized that a good half the people who were supposed to show up bailed...  but instead, we stayed pretty cool.  BCGS or whatever acronym you choose, is really about the jams, and the hanging out.  In that sense, it was spectacular.  Great tasty playing by many people.  Much improvement from Rick.  Matt's friend Joe, who can rip it up at wildly high speeds, instead gave what amounted to a jam clinic on taste and feel.  I got to do a couple clean things with FB, and was reminded again how when he turns off the gain, he does a complete 180 in playing style.  And, of course, the synchronized, harmonized, acoustic augmented walkup was good for much solid entertainment.  And Puff the Magic Dragon may be the saddest song ever written.

Don't ask about Denny's.

Nah, I don't even have a 50MPH fastball.  I have just been itching to throw the ball with an adult... I spend a lot of time throwing with an 8-year-old who is not that into it and thinks when he misses the ball that it's the fault of a bad throw...

Wasn't that bad at all.  Just happened to be one thing we were playing on that was really clean and warm sounding, and your tone (and gain) on that was not what was needed.  Next day the tone was way improved.  And also, I was playing through your killer amp and you were stuck on the bright one...

This was just about as much fun as one could have. Personally,I had the best weekend I've had in a long time.
Matts boy Joe tore up the drums Sat. afternoon,Jamie well lets just he was Satan's Seed on the elec. and the acoustic,
Charger,as always just spectacular, as was Matt. fucking XL-cent tones and tunes. Howie was shredding the fretboard, at one time I thought I saw smoke, Then you have Me,all the guy's say I have improved alot' I just don't see or hear it, But thank-you.
Sat. nite we went to Denny's Rest. Food was good,entertanment was, let's just say "it was flaming" some of us could not stop laughing (Matt & Rik ).Early Morning bed times where the norm-
Jamie and I had a fun trip down to KY.  We where on 264 about to pass our exit ramp when we noticed it, we where doing 70mph
Jamie had enuff room to merge over to HWY 65,HWY 65 has 3 lanes-well, in Ohio our paved ramps have ashphalt till you come to the guardrail, some of KY does not-One hand on the wheel the other holding a hot cup of coffee we merge right onto 65 ( keep in mind it was pitch black out )paved road, NOT, a small drop off then DIRT, we took 2 of the 3 lanes recovering from our little surprise,Most people would have either dropped or spilled thier coffee, Jamie did neither, Shit was flying all over the dash but nothing else was moved or damaged.We laughed for most of the remaining trip.
A GREAT BIG THANK-YOU to Amanda and her Husband for letting us invade their domain. She fried up some tasty bacon Sunday Morning,does"nt get much better than that. I think I can safelly say all the BC guys had a SWEEEEEET time

P.S. Bon is no damn good-LOL. we where all stoked to hear he was coming. It would have been awesome if he would have though.

I'd just like to say thanks to the guys that showed this year.  I know it's hard trying to get everyone's schedule to jive so it's really wonderful that you guys got to come down and jam.

Charger's right....there were a lot of things that went wrong on the technical side.  But shit happens.

The important thing was that we got to jam and this year we got to write some music.  I haven't gotten to really sit down and bang out a song in years with other people and it was just fun.  Took me back to my younger years.

At any rate, Howie actually finally had some tone this year.  I wished he would have played more but I got to really jam a bit with him on Sunday and that was great.

Felt I had some magic time with Charger and Joe.  I talked to Joe today and he was really feeling that stuff.  Wants to take it on the road!

I think my favorite part of the whole thing was just sitting around out back with the acoustics and being silly making fun of Sarah Rabinez.....and of course creating music.

Joe also wanted me to tell you that he had a great time with all of you guys and felt the "magic" that a few of of feel when we get to jam......says he wants in on the Brotherhood of Mutual Love Society.  

I had a lot of fun this year and it really meant a lot to me to have great friends come down and hang out and jam.  So thanks guys for allowing me some of your time.

Brother Matt, that was trully a great time, and your welcome. Can't wait till the next one.

That morning didn't go as planned at all and I left the house in a rush without several things... that was one of them.  I forgot to take the hat.  I WILL NEXT YEAR!!!  (But I have to tell you, if people start calling me TTBB, that thing is going right back in the car!  LMAO)

;D  Reminds me of my experience trying to teach my wife to play tennis.  First of all, I had to TAP the ball or I was hitting it too hard, but then she wanted every ball to come waist high and exactly the length of the racquet away from her body.  Anything else was too high, too low, too far or too close.  After a few friendly reminders that you were allowed to move your feet to get in position and that not every ball is belt high, I finally gave up.

Now remember, that's all relative and too taste... So you must ask yourself "WWYD?"  (What would Yngwie do?   ;D)    And yes, that amp is bright and crunchy (Marshall voiced) so it sounded much fuller the next day with the Wolfgang than it did with the strat.  And since my smooth amp had been confiscated...   :)

Rik, thanks for the compliment.  I actually got some food Sunday so I had a little more "in the tank."  You have improved.  Clearly.  Next year we're going to show you how to get in a pocket and get comfortable with a few shapes and just GO.    And yeah, classic moment... Jamie buys a clearance sweatshirt down there so he'd have something warm to wear... didn't even know it said "Satans Seed" on the back!  LMAO  I still think we should have offered it as a sacrifice.  

The gay people at Denny's were hilarious for several reasons.  One, they were drunk and loud, and two, the southern accent made that one guy much funnier.  The straight chick was a hottie too!
