The Watering Hole

Listening to Music

Just got an email ... new band... chickenfoot.

Sammy Hagar: vocals
Michael Anthony: bass
Chad Smith: drums
Joe Satriani: lead guitar

Not sure why that lineup excites me so much... they're touring soon, too. Might be a show I have to catch.
interesting. no album?
The album's pretty much done, from what I hear - they're shopping it to labels, and hopefully it will be released later this year.

The music is pretty cool, based on the two tracks I've heard. Joe sounds like a different player - and it's not a bad thing - it's all the coolest aspects of his playing (IMO) let fly over a rock-solid rhythm section. And if you like Sammy's singing (as I do), you'll probably enjoy the crap out of it.

It's nice to hear Mike on record again - he's probably the most underrated bassist in hard rock history...it's been a long time, especially since Ed recorded all the bass parts on the new songs for "Best Of Both Worlds" (and shockingly, they were pretty weak).

My bass player has been talking them up a ton... he's been doing all their web stuff and videos... I can't get very into them for some reason, but Joe's guitar stuff sounds great.
i listened to a couple sample tracks, didnt like it at all. bummer.

I always kinda liked slammin' Sammy's voice, pretty ballsy in his prime, nothing fancy but he did belt stuff out with emotion, surely he's past his best days vocally but I'd still like to hear this. The line up is an interesting mix at the very least.
saw the conan performance... meh... bleh... ughh...

not impressed at all outside of how Chad and Michael locked in good together.

so not quite EPIC FAIL but pretty close...
The mix was terrible on Conan. The album is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than that. Sammy sounds great, Satch is awesome, and Mike and Chad play together like they've been playing together for 30 years. The production's good, too. Andy Johns has a way with bringing the rock.

I like it.
