The ending is freaking nuts...
And Derek, check out the guest solo and the use of the headstock cam - thought that might be a cool idea for your vids...
I got a cramp in my hand just watching that :(
awesome!
I've heard this guys name mentioned many times over the years but have to admit never being remotely interested in his music (it's me, getting older and less interested in over the top, stupid level skill playing) though this was kinda cool because it had a throw-back affect on me, like I was listenting to Becker in his prime again, all those lovely harmonized passages, etc. The highlight though was MacAlpines tasteful solo...and man, Tony's tone is much better these days, prefered his tone over Jeff's here.
That was a nifty view with the headstock cam...how did that camera hide itself though when the view switched to the front? ;D ;)
edit: he looks angry, lol...if I had skills like that I'd be smiling! WTF!?!? :P
oh man, loomis is totally badass - give him a second look.
Sacristy off of Zero Order Phase, A Future Uncertain on This Godless Endeavor has a killer (killer!) lead... opening to The Psalm of Lydia on the same album... The Heart Collector on Dead Heart, In a Dead World - cool melody riff and lead... he's just a badass - I've put in 150+ listens to those two albums each! lol.

His work with Nevermore is fantastic, blends psycho technique with some great melodies. But the samples I heard from his first solo disc seemed like it was just shredbeds, this tune feels more song-like to me. Might just be me or where my head was at the time I heard them, but hoping this disc is more listenable.
Yeah, Loomis is a badass. I got to see him with Nevermore on the first Gigantour. Too bad the dipsticks running sound made them sound like a wall of mud. >:(
Here is a video of him with Nevermore when Chris Broderick was the backup guitarist (now with Megadeth) giving it a major wanking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5zV-IlSvP4 The end is a shredfest.
Yeah, I saw him on Gigantour too and wow was the sound run POORLY! We stood right next to the sound booth and at one point during DT I said "John just played a solo and we couldn't even hear him." The guy just looked away like he didn't even care. That's the tour I met John and Mike and then Dave Mustaine backstage. When John asked how we liked it I actually said "you guys were incredible but do you really want to know how the sound was?" He said he did. My buddy that was with me is a drummer. He and I both said that we stood right next to the sound booth and saw at least 15 people come back and complain that you couldn't hear the guitar at times, couldn't hear the drums at time, etc. and they never did ANYTHING but stand there the whole time. They just shook their heads and said they were sorry.

awesome!
I got one in my brain too! He can RIP for sure.
Dream Theater's sound that night wasn't toooo bad, but the sound started getting a little distorted when the whole band got cranking. Input levels were actually a touch hot.
I saw them at the Agoura in Cleveland later in the year when they were supporting their 20th anniversary season and the sound was spot on.
