A friend of mine FINALLY put out his first CD. He used to play with August Zadra (who appears on the CD as well) in a few L.A. bands.
So, check out the songs and see what you think - there's quite a bit of variety - and he's done a pretty good job on it I think (I heard some back when they were kind of raw - much more polished now!).
Find Another Way by Dave Anthony Grummer :)
Well, I read the story... we've all been there, shit happens, we don't become rock stars, I get it. The material sounded very dated, I heard a lot of late 70's to 80's in there, which I guess makes sense given the story. The mixes didn't work for me--an overload of midrange and high mid... that would be pretty difficult for me to listen to... did he not get this mastered?
Don't know, but I've been listening to the FLAC downloads and it doesn't sound too bad at all. It might be that CD Baby's samples are at fault (I never tried them).
He's just a good guy going through a rough patch and, just as people have helped me, I like to help them. I keep listening to Nothin2groove, I've never heard of the sax player he got (Michael Forbes), but the sax just kills on that song!
It sounded OK to me, nothing I would listen to, kinda hair 80's LA band era stuff. Fairly well done. Good luck to your friend.
I also read some of the bio on the bottom of the page. I learned early on that I was never gonna hit it big because I never wanted to pay my dues, so his story is real familiar to me. But through the years I learned that I liked playing and singing my own tunes, and if it never goes anywhere,I still like to do it anyways because I enjoy it. Making music in a decent semi pro manner is payment enough for me.
When my LA producer friend introduces me to his insider friends he always says "this is my producer friend" and he means it. That is compliment enough for me on my musical skills......
