My son has been working on his chops lately and to my very pleasant surprise has taken up a fascination with Randy Rhoads. I really had not listened to much Ozzy in the last few years. There are countless guitar players who are far more technically advanced than Randy was. Our art has progressed much further in the intervening years between his day and the present. But, listening to him and watching some videos on YouTube of Ozzy with Randy really took me back to when i first started playing and I was learning his solos from Ozzy's Tribute album. What a soulful player, for a metal guy, he was. It is easy to see why I was so inspired by him back then. Vai, Yngwie and Randy rhoads were the big 3 for me back in 88 when I first started playing.
That said, it dawns on me now that I have been playing for 20 fucking years (minus a 5 year hiatus between 99 and 04). Makes me feel really old... But the fact that my kid can appreciate Randy makes me feel nosalgic and whatever (not trying to sound gay about it).
